Hello Guys,

I have IPad 2018, I was using it mostly in this case
, please pay attention to the plastic opening . Now once I pulled Ipad out of that case, I noticed huge discoloration in shape of that opening.

I wanted to ask is that normal part of wear and tear or I had a bad luck.
Any suggestion how to fix that ?

Thank you guys

I doubt you can fix it. Do you leave your iPad in any sunlight where it might get more light than normal that might cause the discoloration? I imagine it’s similar to hardwood floors that are in direct sunlight. But, wanted to ask anyway. iPads don’t normally get hot, but I guess that heat could cause this too.

I guess there is no fix too.
I was using it mostly in my house, like 80 % of the time, no direct exposure to the sunlight.
But one thing puzzles me, these cases are pretty popular, and I did not find anyone reporting similar issue.

My initial thought on this is fading of the exposed area due to exposure to UV or chemical reaction with something like cosmetics or sunscreen etc.

Might be aluminum oxidation of the exposed area that could make the surface light grey or more white, although shouldn't happen with anodization. But guessing daily handling and skin contact with oils, hand creams, moisture, etc (as mentioned above). Best to use a case covering the whole thing.

I've used it last and this year on summer vacation, but I don't remember touching the metal with greasy fingers or something like that. Even if I wanted to touch that open part, it would be difficult due to the position when case is open. But maybe its up to the UV as you have pointed out guys.
