The 2018 iPad is intriguing to me since I am going back to school and already have a pencil (I ended up selling my Pro after realizing I don’t need it).

I am trying to decide between getting the 2018 or a cheap 2017. I didn’t use the pencil before, and I am not going to be in school for another 6 months, so I am leaning toward one of the cheap used 2017 I have seen around 230 or so. I’m guessing the A9 still works well, and I don’t plan on keeping this forever (maybe even just till the 2018 start being sold used, or wait till 2019 in hopes of a laminated screen). What are your thoughts? Anyone springing for a used or refurbished 2017 model?

I would make $100 discount on the 5th gen the criteria. I think we may see that soon on new models. Otherwise if not wanting to wait for that, it would be the 6th gen for me with its superior processor.

That sounds like a good plan to me. If I can find one or slightly above 200 it would be a steal. Pencil support is great, but it isn’t worth an extra 130–at least not till I am back in school.

Yes, I agree with that. Although you’re probably not a veteran (US), but if you know someone who is, or in the family, AAFES has the 5th gen 32gb on sale now for $199 no tax and free shipping. (where I bought mine). Otherwise, I’m sure other retail stores will be dropping prices close to that soon.

I’m not, but thanks for the lead. I will look into it. And thanks for serving if you are a veteran!

But I would hang in there and see what discounts on the 5th gen might come up over the next few weeks. Even 6th gen might see some initial introductory discounting.

Believe Best Buy had gen 5s on sale ($250-ish) the other day. Believe some others had it as well.

If OP is near a Fry's might see the gen 6s on sale as well soon. They seem to have the 32GB iPads on sale every week: $50 off before applying promo code (another $5 off). Just need to sign-up for their mailers to get the codes. And will get the ad with the iPad listed in it (believe Apple products are on sale Wednesdays).
