I have tested today the ipad 2018 on a local store, I found it to be slow, even laggy, I know it can't be as fast as the 120hz pros but it felt like going to 30 o less instead of 60... I tested Safari scroll and desktops switch...

I find my phones at 60hz very smooth... what is happening here??

Store wifi sucks. If you were at an Apple store or Best Buy maybe you will see different results? Plus who knows what else is on those iPads. I've played with them in Target and they are slow. Not the perfect environment when they are in the back of the store and my iPhone signal is using 3G.

Blame it on the environment

I just bought one and haven’t experienced this issue. I wouldn’t put too much thought into a display model. Who knows how long it’s been there and what someone has done to it.

It's not that it's laggy. On its own, the iPad 2018 is fast. It's just that the ProMotion display makes a world of a difference.

Same.

I can use iPhones @ 60 Hz fine. But I can’t use any iPad @ 60 Hz. They lag like crazy.

You probably don’t have a 120 Hz device yet.

Compared to a 120 Hz display it is so bad that it isn’t even tolerable.

Wifi or 3G makes 0 difference in scrolling through the home screen.

And the in store devices are usually very very fast.

60 Hz iPads are slow. 60 Hz iPhones aren’t.

Probably done artificially so.

That's the point. 60 fps in videogames are more than enough for me, very smooth and pleasant. I can't understand why 60 fps is not enough on an Ipad, I even wonder if they are really 60 fps... if only there would be a way to measure that

I just purchased a 2018 myself and I don’t find it slow at all. While yes it would be nice to have the 120hz, I wouldn’t say 60hz is unbearable or bad. I put them side by side in the store and while I could tell a difference with the ProMotion, it’s not enough to justify the price difference for me and my use case as a mostly media consumption device

Yes 60hz is ok, but the problem is... what if it doesn't really have those 60hz? I know when something goes at 60fps and I don't feel like this ipad has that frame rate...

It was just an ipad at a store... I rather think there was something wrong with it

My iPad Mini 4 does not lag while scrolling. Unless it's a very heavy website.
Other than that, it feels the same as the iPhone.

I'm talking about ipad 2018, maybe your mini 4 has a better screen that makes the 60hz look as they really are, smooth. But the 60hz in the ipad 2018 are... awful

Mini 4 is no better.

Any iPad running at 60 Hz on iOS 10.3.2 or newer is going to have this issue.

Compare your games to when they run at 120hz, and you will see a difference.

I agree. It’s probably 30 Hz. Not 60 Hz.

But how does one prove it?

I wonder if you are noticing this because of the larger screen. You don't see gaps or whatever in frames on a smaller screen because it is smaller / harder to see, but on the larger screen you can more readily notice the difference? Just a thought.

Also the 2018 iPad doesn't have the same dpi as phones. Less pixels may mean seeing more blur / gaps / whatever when a challenging refresh wise event is happening?

Also, if whatever you are testing requires memory (like a game supposedly running at 60fps) the 2018 iPad I think only has 2GB, which I found not enough for the games we were playing. My 2015 12.9 pro played games better.

Of course not sure memory would have anything to do with scrolling in Safari. Maybe the full page hadn't loaded yet?
