Hi all! I will be receiving an unwanted, barely used 32gb 7th Gen iPad for Christmas with the smart keyboard. I'm looking forward to getting to play with it as it will be my first iPad but I wondered how the A10 was holding up as we go into 2021? I used to have an iPhone 7 until last year which ran fine speed-wise but the battery became an issue. If anyone has any experience/info on what they use theirs for that would be great!

You’ll be fine. You’re biggest risk is running out of storage. That’s where unloading media files and accessing iCloud come in.

Yeah I'm a little concerned about that - I've got a MacBook Pro as my main machine so it will probably just be for web browsing, streaming, writing some documents and some light games!

What kinds of documents are we talking about? Google Docs are uploaded to Google Drive, so you wouldn't have to worry about that taking up any local storage on your iPad.

Lol, we've still got iPads with A8X, A9 and A9X, and no one's interested in upgrading.

Kinda sucks because it makes it harder to "justify" getting a new toy. :p

Receiving an iPad that is only one generation old for Christmas (and it being your first iPad at all) is no bad thing at all. The A10 is a very capable processor and you should have no issues for a good while still. As previously mentioned, storage is pretty low for this day and age. However, iCloud and simply using it as a media device makes that much less worrisome. Enjoy your new device! Should be happy with it for years if you take care of it.

I bought a base 7th Gen last November, and it's holding up very well. I mostly read, write and do light photo editing on it. I added 50GB of iCloud storage for 99 cents per month, and it's been a great device. Enjoy it!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone - glad to hear positive views of it! Definitely very grateful to have it, I just wanted to know how far I can push it and how long I can expect to comfortably use it for. Mainly just the occasional word docs, pdf reading for work but nothing mad as I have a work laptop too.

Still good for awhile for what you want it for. Typing this on my 6th gen iPad with Netflix in PnP and has one less gig of ram.
