Like the title says... my iPad 3G totally blows my iPhone 3G out of the water when surfing the web.... even over 3G.

I live in a fairly small town with only one 3G tower in the middle of town and I'm somewhat on the outskirts. I typically don't even put my iPhone 3G in 3G mode because it will toggle back and forth between edge and 3G and burn up a ton of battery.

However... the iPad 3G has a rock solid 3G connection... and seems to utilize 3G MUCH better than my iPhone. Loading the same websites is night and day between them... and I can't chalk it all up to the faster processor / more ram in the iPad.

Anyone else seeing this? It was a pleasant surprise for me... I thought my iPad might not even see 3G most of the time around here... looks like I was wrong!

i totally agree,

definitely the processor. 3g on the iphone is plenty fast, it's just the rendering that is relatively slow.

That makes sense. When I use the iPad WiFi with the 4G Overdrive mobile hotspot, it downloads as high as 5000Kbps. The iPhone 3GS never gets over 1700Kbps. The MacBook Pro, on the other hand, gets as high as 6400Kbps.

For sure. Using mywi from my 3GS is much faster on my wifi iPad... Which means it's the rendering speed in question
