My question is, should I splurge on the 3g iPad or is it possible to use Handy Light with an iPad? I was also just talking to a women on the US Apple Store site and she said the iPads are all unlocked? That is not true right? Thanks!

Wrong. THE IPADS ARE UNLOCKED.... UNLOCKED.... They just happen to come with an AT&T card as their network fully supports the GSM radios in the iPad. I repeat. THE IPADS ARE UNLOCKED......
Have no idea about Handy Light, but it's certainly true that all iPads sold in the US are unlocked. In fact, the only country where I've heard it is sold locked is in Japan. However, in the US, the only phone company that sells iPad data service is AT&T, so the only times the unlock is useful is if you travel outside the US.
No. Verizon uses CDMA technology while the iPad uses GSM. GSM is more universally available then CDMA.
You can also use T-Mobile but you will not get 3G speeds as they use a funky UMTS frequency that is not compatible to the radios in the iPad. Thus go to AT&T and they can hook you up with all you need.
Also Handy Light was removed from the App Store because it broke the rules. It was not supposed to allow tethering but it did hidden inside the app and Apple came down on them.
Spring for the 3G. It's worth it in my opinion.

Alright, I have Handy Light on my iPhone already but I guess I wont need it cause I'll bring my iPad along more than the MBP,
Exactly. I have a 3 month old 17 inch MBP that just sits at home most of the time. I have an IP TV system installed on my Mac Mini which acts as a server, and the iPhone4 and iPad are my constant companions.
How long have you had your iPad, has the "novelty" worn off? I don't think it will for me as I will commute with it to school everday
I am in Finland right now working for the US Gov't, so I was lucky to get the iPad when it first came out. However I went a different route than most. I ordered the wifi version just to see if I would like it. It arrived and I was hooked. I kept it just long enough to order 2 3G's versions, one 64 gig for me and 16 gig for my wife. I sold the wifi and waited for the 3G's. Not once have I regretted it. I even decided to leave the MBP home when I went to Italy. I bought the camera connector kit and that was it. It was great to be able to have only a camera to worry about. With the right apps, the iPad is proving to be my mainstay device. Yes, I use my MBP, but just to sit on the couch and browse or to go to a cafe by the seaside and read, the iPad is in its element. The key is to get the apps you need and make it your own. Many here complain about the iPad does not do this or that, but if you realize what the iPad is for, you will get tons of enjoyment out of it.

Wow, iPad seems to have been perfect for you so far! I am pumped to get mine now! Another quick question, do notice any difference in the battery life when using the 3g vs the wi-fi. I certainly am not complaining that I may get only 9 1/2 hours on only 3g! I am just wondering

With the wifi only version, I got somewhere around 13 hours. With the 3G version, I gotten around 9 or 10, and this is with the brightness almost all the way up. No real power conservation at all. I just enjoy it and plug it when needed. My wifed goes literally DAYS without charging. She forgets.

Yeah. I'm in Finland. The operators actually encourage data usage. I pay about 12 or 13 dollars a month for unlimited with tethering thrown in as well. Not bad.
On my iPhone I use one operator, and in the iPad I use another network. The iPhone gets about 6 Mbps while the iPad is suppose to get 15 Mbps but I've never seen it. I do get around 6 or 7 on the iPad. Either way I am pretty pleased.
