Hoping we can use this thread to talk about lines, experiences at the Apple or Best Buy stores, experiences with the shipping companies, etc.

I drove past the Best Buy here in town and there wasn't anybody lined up as of last night. That could change early in the morning, but it didn't sound like they were going to do any vouchers.

Best of luck to everyone venturing out to get an iPad - stay safe!

Not sure what I am going to do yet. I have a walk-in preorder at my school's bookstore, but I still don't know if they will actually get it today! I don't know if they have them. They either couldn't tell me that they had them in back or they will get them today. I will cancel the preorder and head to Apple store a couple hours early if they don't have it.

It's not gonna be the same as the wifi release. I'm at bb in Columbia md and there's noone here except me. Gotta remember it is $630!

Godspeed you store-goers. I sit here in St. Louis sipping coffee and awaiting the FedEx person. . . :D

Damn man, I was considering getting there early, but 10am is early to me. :p

Apple Store San Diego

Hey Everyone,

I'm out here with my GF at the Store in San Diego @ Fashion Valley Mall.
Arrived at 5 am and we are the only ones here.

The Apple Store Manager Just Arrived.

I agree with everyone that this will be a lighter launch not to mention you can have it delivered to your front door. but that ruins all the Fun.

I am in South Florida and plan on going to a Best Buy in Doral. I drove by this morning and saw no one in line. I don't think that the line will be that long so I will head by closer to 5.

Agreed! I want it to be a memory. :)

Absolutely! For me, a key factor in purchasing a new Apple product on Launch Day is the whole experience of waiting in line for it, chatting with others who are also eager for it, and getting really, really excited when the product is unveiled (black drape dropped from store windows) and the Apple store employees do their traditional "receiving line" and high-fives as we enter the store......and of course, finally getting my very own new product in hand. It just wouldn't be the same waiting at home for the Fed Ex delivery person to arrive at the door!

I've done this several times now, beginning with the first iPhone Launch Day back in 2007, and I really get a kick out of being part of a Launch Day experience.

Yeah, it's definitely an experience. Been to 4 store openings, Tiger launch, mac mini / shuffle launch and now this. This one unfortunately I'll probably be pretty late to the party for. Hope they have plenty of stock! :apple:

When the WiFi was released i remember going to the Apple store in the mall that Saturday in the middle of the day. The place was PACKED! I couldn't even walk.

I finally got to get my hands on a iPad and within 2 mins someone walked up and asked if i like to purchase one. I was in and out of that store with 10 mins tops. No Line, No waiting, No nothing...I honestly do not see there being a shortage or long lines for the 3G honestly ( though mine is coming via FedEx this morning )

I wouldnt worry nor would i consider standing in line at 5-6-7-8am, I think you'll be the only person there all day to be honest.

I could be wrong, but doubt it. I think it will be real easy to walk into a apple store and get a 3G model today.

San Diego Fashion Valley

Hey Everyone,

So Me and My GF were at the Fashion Valley Mall San Diego Store waiting in Line and we were just asked to leave the Mall til it technically opens at 10am

The Security Guard also said that the Mall Management had no idea of a Special Event Occurring today , and until the Apple Store Notifies them the we are not allowed to Form a line outside the store.

All we can do is wait in the Malls Food Court.

So until 10am we are back at home browsing the forums trying to get more info.

Wtf?

I took a vacation day to be home to sign for mine. So I'm sitting here in my living room and I happen to see a fedex express truck go whizzing right by my house. I thought for second he had maybe just missed my house and would turn around and be back. Well that was about 15 minutes ago. My tracking info says it should be out on a truck for delivery. Now I'm worried he messed up and won't try again until tomorrow...

Unless your iPad was slated for 10am delivery, I doubt that truck was for you. Fedex has multiple trucks in each area depending on the type of delivery.

FEDEX Delivery: ON SCHEDULE 30 April 2010

I just received my 32GB/WIFI @ 10:45am here in TINTON FALLS, NEW JERSEY.

My order was placed on 13 March 2010 @ 7:49am.

Now all I have to do is set it up.

Good Luck To All! Enjoy.

Couldnt be happier with the service. I was one of the first one day one of pre-orders so i've been VERY patient. However I just received my 32GB 3G, Fed-Ex cam around 10:45 and my order said it would be here before 430pm, So im very satisfied with the transaction...

now if ITUNES would hurry up I could actually start playing with it!!!:D

I agree with being part of Launch Days - the camraderie, the sharing of knowledge (we're tech nerds and we love it!). Most often, I go with or for other people. A lot of people are surprised I go out on Black Friday to "watch the madness". Some people make fun of me until I end up getting them an item that they want or for their kids.

With my niece on her way, I'm out of town and actually having to wait until Sunday night to get to unbox and set up my iPad 3G.

The Security Guard also said that the Mall Management had no idea of a Special Event Occurring today , and until the Apple Store Notifies them the we are not allowed to Form a line outside the store.

Hopefully it all works out for you. That stinks that they are saying they have no idea of a special event. I'm guessing the Apple Store does good business for them, so I'm surprised that they seem to be "unaware" of this event. If I'm the mall's manager, I would make it a point to know what's going on with my stores, especially when they have hot products on the way.

There iss a line of six of us now at the Tysons Apple store......the first hour theee were only a couple of us and then as more arrived, try finallyput up the stanchions to rope the line apart from basic mall traffic, of which there is plenty on a Friday afternoon. I imagine that around 3:00 or so we will see more arriving to get in line after school is out and people get off work early.
A fun afternoon with interesting conversation and lots of people-watching!

I took a vacation day but was upstairs adding movie posters to my iTunes movie collection. So, I signed the release form and put it on the door JUST in case.

It was about 12:30 when I got hungry and went downstairs. I opened the door to check, and nope, not there. I kid you not as I was standing out there, I heard the rumbling of the FedEx truck coming around the corner. It was my iPads.

It's fate I tell you. :D
