I just have a quick question about my AT&T service on my iPad. I pre-ordered my iPad the day the option became available, and received it the day it came out. That day I activated my unlimited data plan. Since then, every month I have been paying the $30/mo. Each month, I have gone over 2gb. Next month, I will use very little, or no data on my iPad.

My question is, if I cancel my unlimited plan for a month, will I be able to get back in? What if I buy the $15/mo. plan for a month? The unlimited option does not appear in the settings, and I've heard that you have to call AT&T. I don't want to sit on the phone for several hours just to ask AT&T if I can do this, so if anyone here has done this, I would really appreciate any information.

Thank you.

AT&T has been very clear, they have terminated the unlimited plan for ipad´s, so if you suspend it for a day, pay an hour late they will take it away and, no you wont be able to get it back you´ll be stuck with those insane new plans...

So don't look at it like your spending 30 bucks you wont use, look at it like your making a 30 dollar investment, so the next year you wont have to pay ridiculous data bills and spend half your day checking how much you´ve already used (data)

I would like to make one small correction to what "ville" posted, and that would be the bit about being an hour late and losing your unlimited data.

Back in late July or early August my bank gave me a new credit card because the one I had may have been compromised in an ATM scam. I changed all of my online accounts but forgot about the one for the unlimited data account with AT&T because it is automatic. When they tried to bill my account for the data account it of course bounced. I found out when I went to use my iPad and the 3G didn't work, same on iPhone. When I called them they told me about my credit card. I was sure I'd lost my unlimited data account because of it, but when I explained politely to the lady on the other end she worked with me and got things straightened out.

One strange thing she had me sign up for the 250MB package and then changed it to the unlimited plan, she said it was the only way she could do it. I was hesitant at first to do it as I figured it was only a ruse to get me to sign up for it. But, after a looooong minute she asked me to check on my phone and sure enough the unlimited plan was back.

The rest of what has been posted is correct as far as I know. If for any reason you drop your unlimited plan even for a day, you lose it forever.

Tom thanks for clarifying, the hour thing was a bit of a stretch to make a point, but it´s important you took the time to explain it some times people take thing a bit more literal than necessary....;)

Went to use the iPad tonight. Got a message that I was out of data. WTH, I have the unlimited plan!?! So I looked at the account. It lists all three data plans...$15,$25 and the $30 unlimited plan! Not sure why it didn't auto renew...credit card is still valid. But at least it's giving me the option to re-up to the unlimited plan without the hassle of calling customer service.
