Are there any comparisons of the iPad over 3G and the wifi iPad connected thru MyWi?
Are the speeds similar?

Just tested using Speedtest HD. Got 7.1 megabits!
This is through my iPhone 3G - not using

Dumb question, but would the connection really be faster without WEP security/password on?

I was referring to using the jailbroken app "MyWi" via the iPhone 3GS compared to using an iPad with 3G built in

I found myself in a good 3G area at the weekend.
MyWi gave very good speeds. For web-browsing, it felt comparable to WiFi speeds.

Not used a 3G iPad - but I would be surprised if it was much faster.

The real downside of MyWi is the battery burn rate on the iPhone.
And you have to turn it off, and re-boot the phone to kill it.

My top speeds from SpeedTestHD was
12.34Mbps on my home wifi and 617Kbps from the "MyWi" app via the iPhone 3GS.
Anyone have a speed test for their 3G iPad?

I didn't benchmark the connection I got, but I was getting performance that must have meant a much faster connection than that.

But this was in the UK - where the 3G might be a little quicker.

I never had to reboot to kill it. I just bring up my background apps and close it.

Despite the MyWi setup working fine I'm considering selling my 16W for a 16G just for the convenience of the built in connection.

i Have both 32w and 32g with mywi on 3gs. side by side tethered with "my3G" app running they are so close in speed its hard to tell.
MyWi
up .2
dn 1.7

3G
up .26
dn 2.1

I am new to this Jailbreaking shizzle.
How do I do that?

And more to the point, why does the developer of the app not do it in code.
Or is that a dumb question?

I have proswitcher and backgrounder installed. It's configured that when I hold the home button momentarily, it'll bring up my apps that are running.

MyWi speed test

So it is certainly fast enough.

Now I need to turn it off.

Love it

I am getting 1.49 download speed on my freshly jail broken 3G phone.

I am really enjoying my iPad (32GB Wifi).

Posting this from iPad.
