I know that a lot of you have pre-purchased a 3G for delivery. Due to a planned vacation I was not able to do this for fear of having it delivered while I was away. So based on the announcements today, any guesses on when the 3Gs will be available for instore purchase? I called our local Apple store today but they did not know - or would not say!

iPad 3G - when available in the Apple store?

They'd never let people have them before they were in stores.
My guess is that it's anywhere from Thursday April 22 to Saturday April 24.
If we're unlucky-Monday April 26.
Once they start shipping, I'll bet they start dribbling into Apple Stores. Gonna be a hit-or-miss proposition for awhile, though...I'll bet quantities will be limited.

I just went to return my wifi today, I changed my mind and I'm getting the 3G model.
I asked the lady, she said:
"We had pre-orders for wifi, the day we shipped wifi was the day we had them in the stores, most probably it will happen for the 3G model too".
It makes sense to me.
Remember, people who order first and on the same day may not receive them on the same day for one reason or the other. Apple is not going to wait till every pre-order has been delivered to start selling them in the stores.
If they didn't do that imagine the market for iPad on eBay! Don't think there wouldn't be people desperate enough to not wait a few extra days.

Because they may not want to deal with going to the store and waiting in line. If they were in such a rush to get it they probably already pre-ordered or planned to wait at the store.
Some people don't need to have it immediately and would rather wait to have it delivered to their house.
Some ppl do not have an Apple Store near them. If I got an email stating my iPad 3G would not arrive til 5/7, I'd probably call to cancel and pick up at a nearby Apple Store. There's about 4 within my metroplex that I could go to.
Does it suck if you want an iPod and order it and have to wait a few days for delivery, when you can go right to the Apple Store or Best Buy and pick one up today? People order online for various reasons, mostly convenience. Nowhere is it written that preordering guarantees you'll get it first.
It's not Apple's problem if customers are impatient.
My approach is this: once it is available in the Reston VA Apple store or the Reston VA Best Buy, I'll buy one. Simple as that. I don't care if it's tomorrow or one month from tomorrow. I'll start caring if it stretches out several months, but that's unlikely.

Patience is a virtue that you clearly have. It is refreshing to see your attitude. Why do so many people seem to suffer from immediate gratification syndrome?
