ipad 4-digit code

I have an ipad that I stopped using over 2 years ago because I got new bigger one I use all the time. I now want to use the old one again. I have charged it and it is asking for a 4-digit code. I do not remember the code; in fact, I don't remember it even having a code. I have tried 4-digit codes that might have worked but nothing works and now it has blocked me for one hour.

What can I do besides throw it away?
