‪Started using my iPad 4 after ages and have realised that this device is only capable of light work with typing and streaming videos now. Often the keyboard is unable to keep up with my typing speed. Although I still think that I prefer this one over my phone to type long emails or posts on the internet. A full scale keyboard is always better than the crammed keyboard on the phones.

The keyboards on the iPhone SE and iPhone 7 Plus are no problem to me when I type. I prefer typing on them than on my iPad Air 2.

Really? I don't like to type on the phones unless I have to. Which is more than I'd like to be honest. But with the iPad I feel like I can use it for chilled out time without having used my mac. This could be the next best solution to just type on social networks or on forums like this.

Similar situation for me with my iPad 3 on iOS 9.3.5 with the slow typing response, but is still usable for most basic things.

I 100% agree with you about typing on phones.......Hate it.

For the iPad 3, I noticed iOS 9.3.5 actually improved typing response. It was so much worse on iOS 8. I've found iOS 9 to be a more optimized version of iOS 8 (at least for older devices with minimum 1GB RAM - iPad 3, 4 & Air).

iPad 3+iOS 8 was almost throw-it-against-the-wall awful for me.

Apple seems to provide updates well past what I'd consider the "Best Before" date. Anyone who has a 1st gen iPad Air on iOS 9 or 10, I highly suggest waiting for feedback before updating to iOS 11. It sounds like it's gonna be a resource-intensive update.
