Ipad 5 or Dell Xps 18 (Haswell)?

*Only* 1080p???What do you think? The current Xps 18 has only a 1080p screen and 4.4 hour battery life, a haswell upgrade would make it very nice...
But I would hate the 1080p screen
If 1080p doesn't satisfy you, then I'd stay away from the iPad, unless you want good battery life, then I'd stick with the iPad.
Oh it's an 18in tablet? That's too extreme for my tastes, so I'd suggest the iPad, unless you need the Office capabilities.

Why wouldn't it be? I like big screens but I hate big pixels...
I think his question pertained more to the fact that they really have different functionality. Yes, the Dell can function as a tablet but it's really a desktop convertible and not intended to be portable as an iPad. Dell even labels it as a touch screen desktop on their website.
dude the ipad doesn't even have a 1080p hd screen, the main which attracts us towards the ipad(and iphones, ipods, etc) is the iOS, the apple's products don't have the top-notch internals, it's iOS which we are addicted to, and trust me, iOS lost it's magic with the iOS7, when you use it, you're like wow, it's great but after some time you'll recognize that iOS1-6 were much more engaging, much more lively. apple tried to beat android by converting iOS into android, and the result was really bad, neither could they beat android and nor did the iOS had it's magic anymore. but i dont think dell tablets are that good, go for a galaxy or surface tablet(surface 2 is coming)
People, 1080p resolution is less than what's on the iPad:

QXGA (iPad): 2048 × 1536

As far as I'm concerned these are two very different products. Do you want a tablet or a desktop lol. If you're looking for a consumption tablet, iPads your man. If you're looking for a productivity tablet, look elsewhere. This Dell is not it either.

The XPS 18 after a Haswell update looks to me like it would be an awesome product. It would make a 5 pound tablet though...
What determines if a tablet can be used for productivity and why would you say the Dell one couldn't be?
That Dell tablet is pretty sick, I'd much rather have that than an ipad for home use, but I'm not going to take that on the road like I would an ipad.
The other caveat, which affects some more than others, is that Windows tablets majorly suck for games. The ipad is nice in that sense. True 99% of the games are fluffy junk, the ipad does have a select list of pretty awesome "real" games as I like to put it, ie: infinity blade versus angry birds. I couldn't begin to imagine how awesome it would be to play some killer games on a 18" screen like that.
The other caveat, which affects some more than others, is that Windows tablets majorly suck for games. The ipad is nice in that sense. It's 18 inches, I do not see that as a tablet by any means. A productivity tablet needs the ability to have a full os experience or at bare minimum an android-like experience (communication between apps, a file system, etc.). Ioses sandbox approach just doesn't work too well.
So you just do not consider it a tablet then. But if you did consider 18 inch touch slate to be a tablet this would be a productivity device as it has Windows 8 and surpasses Android in it's productivity features.
I still consider it a tablet regardless of size, I've actually used the IB one and it was a pretty nice experience from the couch. Rather cumbersome but it worked well and played Civ 5 like a charm. This is actually a system we are currently looking at for some of our physician offices. Right now they lug around 15 inch convertible tablet PCs. They do not tend to use the keyboards at all and treat them like tablets with a stylus. They are also about as heavy as these XPS 18s.

Yea, far too reliant on games that have touch controls. Certain games coming out are getting Windows 8 modes... like Civ. The other times I just carry around a mouse for my Surface Pro if i wanna do FPS or something else.
If you plug in a mouse, I don't see why not.
A Bluetooth mouse would likely work just as well.
I'd buy an 18" iPad/Mac Tablet. I saw the dell xps 18 at best buy and immediately wanted one (but waiting for haswell). Mainly because I would put it on my music stand and use it as a digital sheet music viewer. iPad is too small for that and laptops have that pesky keyboard in the way. Lots of my friends wanted a larger iPad and they released a mini...
