Im looking into getting an iPad again since now even Google have given up on Android tablets. In my budget I've narrowed it down to 2 possible options (both 2nd hand but in great condition).

Would you get the 6th gen iPad or the 2nd gen iPad Pro and why? Apologies for asking but I've done some searching and couldn't find a direct comparison.

Look here to compare iPads: https://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/

Anyways, I’d go for the iPad Pro 10.5 inch.

I currently have the iPad 6th Gen and I love it. I will say that eventually I will be going away from it to get a bigger mold for more screen real estate in the near future but the 6th Gen is an amazing iPad. The fact that 6th Gen is very cheap now is a good thing and might make your decision easier.

If both are comfortably in your price range then I think the pro is a no brainer. The pro has a larger, laminated display with pro motion, thinner design, four speakers, faster CPU and significantly faster GPU. If you can afford the pro and want it to last a while then I wouldn’t even consider the 6th gen.

That being said, if you’re strapped for cash then the 6th gen is still a great tablet that can be found for nice and cheap, especially used. A great choice if you’re on a strict budget.

Random question because I know it’s not one of his options, but I’m in the same boat.

I want an iPad only for games, web browsing, and occasionally making word/excel documents. Is the 6th Gen or iPad Air sufficient? I owned an iPad Pro previously and it was great but I just don’t want to drop that money.

Yes, the 6th gen is fine for your use.

iPad Air 2019 all the way for above uses. The increase in screen size makes it much better for light productivity work like Word and Excel. I use it almost daily for reviews, reading and marking up documents.

Sweet! Thanks. Yeah the Pro is sooo nice but the iPad for me is a luxury device, not a daily device, but also don’t want something with too old of specs.

Thanks! You’d even go 6th gen over the newer iPad Air?

For basic usage why spend the extra money? That’s my thinking at least. Obviously get what you want, but I personally don’t think you’d see any tremendous benefit over the 6th gen for your use.

iPad Air 3 will give you better experience overall than 6th gen iPad and 3GB ram will carry you longer way than iPad 6th gen, especially for gaming and web browsing.

Not to mention DDR4X on the Air over DDR4 for iPad

Though is DDR4X either a true replacement or just an enhancement
