A family member bought a new iPad 8th Gen to replace their aging Air 2 because it felt slow and laggy on iPadOS 13. Because of that I never recommended upgrading to iPadOS 14. I did a DFU mode restore to 14.4 before restoring their data via Finder. Now however, he interface feels just as laggy as the Air 2. Is there anyway to fix this without doing another restore and setting up as new?

Is something from her old iPad Air 2 being transferred over to the new iPad and making it slow?

Not that I can see. I tried looking through settings and deleted some apps that were left ‘installing’ which sped it up temporarily but by the morning it was back to laggy.

Its as if the animations are running at like 24fps. Just very laggy and stutter-y.

It should not be lagging at all, so must be something in the users data that was transferred over. My Ipad Air 3, which is basically identical to the ipad 8 is as smooth as butter, although i have kept that on ios 13. Maybe try setting up as new, and only log into their Apple ID to transfer those settings, and see how the ipad runs this way. Then slowly start transferring data over via Itunes (like photos and music).

I just bought an 8th generation iPad Wednesday night, I had an iPad Air 2 that I gave to my boyfriend because I could not pass up the deal T-Mobile gave me for adding a tablet line when I paid the phone bill, I guess as a reward for being a customer for 6 years, and I am amazed at how much faster it seems than the air 2 and the awesome battery life. Get 2 full days of use out of a full charge.
