Hello world

I’m interested in mirroring iPad 9 to a basic monitor. Would Apple TV (connected to the monitor HDMI) give me a) wireless options and b) no black bars?

I use this for some work stuff as it’s nicer to use than my HP laptop. Monitor is a basic HP HD affair. No frills.

I prefer iPad as core functionality like Bluetooth is available and I use hearing aids- streaming sound for Teams, Zoom etc is essential. IT says corporate security policy beats my specific needs. iPad isn’t as flaky either but some bespoke apps aren’t accessible via the 365 set up we have.

Thanks in advance.

As long as you mirror there is no way to eliminate black bars because you are using a different aspect ratio in your monitor. There is otherwise no extended display on non M-series iPads. Only individual apps can use a 16.9 aspect ratio if they are coded to do it, but most of them are video and streaming apps, and only do that when you play some media. There is no OS level way to do it...

Keep in mind even with a M1/M2 iPad that you'll need to extend the desktop instead of mirroring to get rid of the black bars and you'll need at least a mouse to be able to interact with the content on the external screen. As long as you sit at a desk with mouse and keyboard attached it's fine.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn’t appreciated apps needed to be specifically coded to play ball with 16:9 (I was wondering why I could watch a full screen movie but my Word doc and desktop had the bars).

Maybe just start saving for a VisionPro…

Next iPad (well, my personal iPad) will definitely be M series…

Did that app that promised a full screen experience for iPad ever take off? Guessing not…
