Hi All-

I have an iPad 9th Gen and I’ve had an issue where I’m unable to download rental movies from iTunes to this specific device. The rental download works on all other Apple devices that are NOT 9th Gen iPad.

I’ve had a case open with Apple Support for 5 months; they are no help.

Attached is example of the message received when attempting to download.

Any one have this same issue or can someone provide a fix?

Thanks!!

Can you not get it replaced then if you have a case documenting the issue?

Thanks for responding… I’ve had the unit replaced by Apple once already; same issues. Also, I logged out of my iTunes account, my spouse logged in and received the same error when attempting to download a rental; seems the issue is very specific to iPad 9th Gen and not user specific.

You say that you can download on your other devices, how many other devices do you have associated with your Apple ID? If you haven't removed old devices, it's possible that you've reached the limit -

Thanks for the response. Yes, tried that as well to ensure the 9th Gen iPad was one of the devices allowed to download files…

It would be useful if you let us know what you’ve already tried?

I don’t think it’s a hardware problem. A search reveals that people have encountered the same issue with numerous different devices over a long period of time. Not much in the way of solutions, unfortunately. I think it’s more likely to be some sort of software glitch.

Someone found that disabling BlueTooth worked, but that seems rather obscure -

If you haven’t already, I would try setting the iPad up as a new device rather than restoring it from an iCloud backup? That would eliminate the possibility of a corrupt backup, which would explain why the problem occurred on two devices.

First, I’d go through the procedure as if I was preparing the iPad for sale -

Thanks… I honestly think we’ve tried everything…
  1. exchanged the original unit for a new unit; same issue;
  2. Opened case with Apple; get shuffled around like a hot potato with no follow up;
  3. Tried different user accounts; same issue;
  4. Wiped and set up as new iPad several times; same issue;
  5. Sent screen recordings to Apple twice; no response or fix;
  6. Checked amount of devices allowed for use; made sure not exceeding the max; same issue;
  7. Tried disabling Bluetooth; same issue;
  8. Updated laptop to latest OS and sync with iPad; same issue
  9. Updated iOS to 15.3; same issue;
  10. Currently reaching out to my friends for help :)
Also, if I download the movie to my MacBook and try to transfer it over to the iPad; will not work…

That’s puzzling.

I would discount it being a hardware problem because you’ve had two 9th generation iPads and I can’t find reports of other users having the same problem. The other reports I’ve seen are for different devices.

You’ve eliminated it from being a corrupt backup by setting it up as a new device.

It could be a problem with your Apple account, but it seems like you’ve gone as far as you can with that.

Could it be a network issue? Have you tried rebooting your router or using another Wi-Fi network?
