Another person after some advice, ideally from those that have experience using the iPads I mention.

I currently have an iPad Air 2 and a MacBook Air. I'm in a debate currently about doing one of the following:
1. Keep my iPad Air 2
2. Upgrading to an iPad Pro 10.5 (sell my Air 2)
3. Upgrading to an iPad Pro 12.9 (sell my Air 2 and MacBook Air)

My use on the devices I have is pretty much the same no matter what device I use, email, media consumption (films, streaming etc), browsing the internet, Word and Excel etc. I don't do anything such as editing or creating stuff

Any advice would be apprecaited

If you have an iPhone, try to recreate all your workflows using that to see if it can all be done in iOS in general. I do quite a bit of more advanced tasks on my iPad--far beyond the casual email or Word doc--and have found that I have been able to completely cut the Mac out of the equation.

It all just depends on what you need.

in my opinion, Option 2 is better because at some point you do need a laptop as all your requirements cannot be fulfilled on iPP (for most of the users).

I have a MBP alongside iPP 10.5 and i think it's the best of both worlds.

Good luck!

Question, do you have any desktop at all or is the MacBook Air your only device with a desktop OS?

If you have a desktop, then Option 3.

No desktop, I vote for Option 2 and then try to do everything on the iPad for a couple of months. Once you're confident you don't need a laptop at all, then sell the MacBook.

If your not in a time crunch, try just using the iPad Air 2 as your only computing device for a week or so, and see how you do with getting used to it.

If it seems to work out then go to the Apple Store and play around with the 12.9 and see if it is something you could see yourself using in everyday life. If you find it to be too big, then sell the Air 2, buy the 10.5 and use it daily for a couple weeks, if you see that you can get by 100% and you don't need the MacBook Air, sell it. If you find that there are tasks that the iPad can't handle as well as the MacBook and vice versa then you have no regrets.

I strongly urge you to go to the Apple store and hold the 12.9 to see if it is what you want.

Are you sure you can do without a computer?

I vote for number 2.

I agree - I tried out the 12.9 at my local shop and its just too big and cumbersome for me. Sure, I wasnt used to that size but the point was that I dont ever seem geting used to the size. Its lightweight and all that but feels wasted with so much space between icons and the sheer size of it. Just too big, IMO.

Reactions: Newtons Apple
Sold MacBook Pro for iPad 12.9 when they first came out. Then I went with the 9.7 inch iPad Pro because of the size of the larger one. Boy did I make a mistake for myself. For my aging eyes, I needed the extra real estate, and now I have the 12.9 inch iPad Pro second generation. I am a happy camper now.

I have an iPad Air 2 and 11" Macbook Air. (as well as an iPad Mini, iPad Pro 12.9, and 21" iMac)

I would recommend keeping the combination that you currently have. Office productivity software on iOS still woefully lag behind their desktop counterparts. Unless your office needs are very basic, you'll need a system with a desktop OS.

Based on the tasks you describe, your current devices should handle them just fine. Is there a particular reason why you're looking to move on from what you have or is it simply a matter technology-wanderlust? (I suffer from that myself... a lot! :D )

I remember getting the 12.9 and 9.7 when they first came out. I returned the 12.9 the next day for another 9.7.

It was way bigger than I was will to put up with. Today both my 10.5 are making me quite happy and two family members are enjoying my 9.7s

You really got to hold it in your hands to know. Glad you did!

Good Apple gives everyone choice!

Thanks for all the replies everyone

I have messed about with the 12.9 iPad Pro as a local store, it does seem massive, but then I’m thinking of it was replacing my MacBook I’d expect it to be

No real reason for wanting to upgrade other than a bigger screen, getting something newer and faster, curious to see if O could begin using the Apple Pencil, and just because Apple does this to me all the time where I want the latest they have released:D

And even after you purchase the 12.9 iPad, and if it's too large for your needs or you can't adjust to the size of it, you can always downgrade to the 10.5. But the larger display is nice to have.

Can't remember the last time I was this torn, possibly when I was thinking about getting my old iPhone 6s Plus

Overtime I think ok I'm getting the 10.5, I read about the 12.9 and think actually I want this now, and vice versa. It's a good choice to have though, but sometimes I wish there was only 1 size like their used to be so I had no choice :p
