I had to replace my old lightning cable and decided to buy a new Apple 18w charger with a new Apple 2m USB-C to lightning cable. We have two iPad Air 3 64GB and they both charge significantly faster than before. iPhone 8 Plus is also charging way faster. The problem is that my iPad display gets unresponsive as soon as I plug it in. The screen doesn’t respond and I have a lot of missed touch inputs. I have to tap it multiple times. Tested on both iPads, different iOS versions. Same problem and very annoying. Any help?

Yes, that would be a big concern to me too. Have you tested with your old charger with the new cable?

I haven't experienced it firsthand on any iPads, but other users here have, and there are threads about the issue. Here's a link to one of them, but be warned the thread wanders a bit.

Unresponsive display is usually indicative of a bad charger. Are you sure it's an Apple charger? They don't make a 20W model.

Thank you, guys. My old charger is the smaller 12w charger. So the new usb-c cable wouldn‘t work. Thanks for the link. I‘ll have to check it out.
You are right. It‘s an original 18w charger.

Yes, exactly.
I have no problems when I use the slower 12w charger and standard USB cable.
I think I‘ll call Apple Support and try to get a replacement. Not sure if I need a new USB-C cable or a new 18w charger...

Old thread but I have the same issue. No matter if 5, 12, 18W... screen goes unresponsive when charging. Reboot does not solve issue, once I unplug... screen goes back to normal. Multiple outlets tested and same issue exists in separate buildings too.
