Okay, so I’ve been hit with the battery drain issue as well, for me it’s on an iPad Air 2 updated to iOS 11.4 the day it came out. It should’ve already done the indexing.

To see how fast it drains I fully charged it last night before going to bed and then unplugged it. This morning it was down to 85%. I quickly put it back to sleep and left for work. I just came back at 6pm and checked, it’s now at 59%, in complete stand by. This is pretty irritating...

Some days I’ve found it totally dead.

Anybody with battery issues on their Air 2?

[solved] 11.4.1 seems to have fixed the battery drain issue.

Have you tested the battery? My iPad Air 2 battery is like you described but its because the battery is near shot. I've had it since near its launch date. The Air 2 has a smaller battery compared to the other 9.7 iPads and not the most efficiency SoC anymore.

How long have you owned it? Have you used a program or app to check the real battery capacity?

Batteries not only become resistant to charge (lose of capacity) but will deplete with little to no load. Kind of like a dying car battery, if your car is hard to start due to a aged battery charging it wont help it. It will get to the point you can't even start your car without a jump.

Do you use iCloud services? Many can be a power hog, for example if you are using iCloud Photo Library and don't have it set to optimize storage the full res pics/videos are downloading. Messages are downloading/syncing. etc etc.

Using the iPad as a home hub for homekit causes drain too, I would recommend an AppleTV or HomePod if that is the case.

It could still just be syncing data and indexing for spotlight if you only recently updated.

Try setting the iPad to airplane mode and closing out all the apps the next time you leave the house. You'll see an improvement regardless but battery lose should be minimal, like 2-5% if even. If its still has significant lose than try turning it off completely before you leave. If its not at 100% when you get home and turn it on you can safely assume the battery is just worn.

You can also try a fresh install of iOS just to cover all your bases.

I was suspicious of iOS 11 at first because thats when I noticed the issue pop up for me however my mother has an Air 2 on iOS 11.4 that I bought for her just before the launch of the 2017 iPad and it behaves as I would expect (if locked it will lose a couple percent after HOURS). Considering I bought my iPad Air 2 in Jan 2015 and I have used it constantly since it shouldn't be a surprise the battery can't hold up anymore. I also have a 2017 iPad provided to me by work and on iOS 11.4 its fine, when locked it barely loses any battery.

HTH some, good luck.

Wow thanks a lot for your reply and suggestions. Yes, my iPad is not new anymore and i noticed that the battery was not as good anymore but after installing iOS 11.4 it was quite noticeable how worse it got. To make matters worse I’ve noticed similar issues with my iPhone X. The phone and iPad get warm for simple tasks as using Safari. I have been reading another thread where apparently many people have similar issues related to the battery on 11.4. I will try your suggestions of disabling cloud services and using the low battery mode to see if it still drains while sleeping.

[doublepost=1529467600][/doublepost]I had the same problem except with an iPad Mini 4. Without boring you, I tried the usual suspects: turn off location based services, Bluetooth, etc., etc. with all sorts of permutations.

The only thing that worked: Delete Apple Maps. Somehow I believe that Maps is overactive in its interactions with other apps -- which doesn't show up in % of battery usage. PS, LBS is still on.

Interesting... I’ll give it a try and erase Apple Maps. Thanks!

11.4.1 solved the battery drain. It’s been 24 hours and I can already tell the difference!
