Has anybody experienced somthing like this?

A family member brought me an iPad Air 2 with absolutely no charge. If you press the Home button it just shows the drained battery image.

I've tried plugging it in a wall charger, a Mac USB port, a PC, etc... no luck.

In fact, it seems to be mocking me: if I plug it in the wall charger, it doesn't do anything. When I disconnect it, it briefly shows the battery icon and the "Lightning cable + lightning drawing" image, as if it were charging, like this.

iTunes doesn't detect it. However, I was able to put it in DFU mode. It was detected then and I was asked to restore and update it. While all the progress bars were showing I was really happy: it seemed my problems had gone away... but it was not so. After completing the updating, it still shows the same behavior.

Any tips? Things I could try?

Thanks in advance.

Update: Nevermind, after doing the restore via DFU mode I left it plugged it to the wall charger for a while and suddenly it woke up.

Update 2: The iPad is now in the "Hello screen", but it just shows 1% charge even 'though it at least detects when there is a cable plugged in. If I try to use it, it dies.

Well, if you've tried multiple different cables and multiple different charging sources, then what you're reporting suggests that the battery has failed. This can happen, especially when a device is allowed to discharge completely through negligence. All you can do at that point is take it to an Apple store and have the battery replaced.

According to this page, battery replacement is $99 (seems pretty reasonable to me):
