Hello,

just need some advice on what iPad would serve longer. In reality it will be used as a browsing tv, occasional game and constant baby monitoring via apple's home app.

Should I get the iPad Air 2020 256gb or the iPad Pro 2020 128gb? they are within a couple of euros difference in most stores in my country.

Many thanks for any sound advice.

Honestly I think you should save a few hundred dollars and get the base iPad. It will be incredibly fast and beyond functional for that type of usage and it will be supported for years.

Don’t be upsold on something you won’t need. The base iPad can do everything you would want.

Get the iPad Pro. ProMotion will make your experience so much better.

How is 120Hz vs. 60Hz overhyped?
Can't see the difference, good for you i guess.
I just don’t think it should be the reason to pick the Pro over the Air. You can make a similar claim for the Air arguing that apps open faster by a split second due to the newer processors and that makes it a better experience. In reality, both of these don’t make or break anything.

It’s a nice addition, but it doesn’t impact the experience of the 60Hz as much as some people claim. Whats more important to note is that other than the refresh rate, the two have the same display quality until the mini-LED’s arrive.

I feel the way people are talking about the benefits of ProMotion here are overvalued and it might lead to disappointment when people get their devices when they realise it’s a smaller benefit among the overall experience, and not the glorified “must-have” feature people talked it up to be.

Looking at the light bleeding issues with the Air maybe the Pro is something that should be considered, it just seems the screen quality is superior and thats not even touching pro motion.

The display is not the same quality for Air and the Pro. Brighter screen and less light bleed on the Pro's. I agree, that if a person can't tell the difference, between the 60/120Hz screen, they should go wit the Air.
Light bleed does indeed exist on the new Air, and can confirm the 2020 Pro did not.

Brightness however is not a big difference during regular use.

Display quality (pixels, TrueTone, color, P3, etc) otherwise is on par with the Pro, though we’ll have to see if the light bleed gets worse over time.

How would you know? Have you ever used an iPad with ProMotion?
I used both the Air and the Pro for two weeks.

It’s a preference that is subjective to everyone but I really didn’t find ProMotion to be one of the main features when it came to my decision. The light bleed, RAM, storage, and quad speakers are much more important things to consider, IMO.

I still consider the Air to be the better value for OP between the two, and again recommending the iPad 8th gen over both judging by what they’re going to use this iPad for.

One more question. Would a 64gb be enough? Cheers

You should know best how much storage you will need over the assumed lifetime of the device. Others can only guess.
If it’s just used as a fancy pricy telly - any storage suffices.

Personally I’d pick the Pro.

Actually, there is one more difference that I’ve seen in reviews and in store: the angle of view of the Air 4 seems much poorer compared to the Pro 2020.

But I agree that for intended usage, the iPad 8 128 gb would be better value for money.

for what its worth I had a gen 3 iPad Pro 12.9 used it for basic tasks. tbh I prefer a laptop to a big 13 inch tablet and folding case sold it for new m1 MacBook. bought a new 8th gen iPad because I do love having an iPad (normal size one I have learned).... lack of lamination and 120 hertz is noticeable but to say unusable or "much better experience" a bit flawed opinion lol...... not as smooth and not as fast sure, but its legit doing everything I did on my pro in VERY similar fashion. while at Best Buy it was hard to justify the 300 bucks extra for the air (at half the capacity) and that was side by side comparing (air screen was made more vivid and of course bigger)..... im sure if your iPad will be primary device or heavy use the value can be seen by stepping up, but as someone who just does very basic task hard to beat 8th gen iPad especially on sale (Best Buy free membership gives 60-70 off 8th gens at the moment).
