Hi, I just recently got the new iPad air. I love the device, but only one thing is bothering me a bit. The device tends to get quite warm (and even hot occasionally). During quite light usage both sides of the screen (in portrait mode) have the tendency to get warm. During more "heavy usage", like drawing with artrage and charging, the right hand side (where the pencil charges) got really quite hot. I had an iPad pro 12.9 inch before this, and I remember it getting hot too sometimes, but somehow the Air feels like it gets hot more easily.

The logic board is on the right side, so I would expect that side getting warm at least, but I wonder why the left side gets warm at all..

Has anyone else had this experience?

Well, it must be a different component of the device. I just can't remember which one is on the left side...
It's the battery, I know that. However, the battery spans from the middle to the left, I'm not sure why it specifically gets warm on the left side.

The red encircled spots are the places it gets hot. Why would the sides of the battery become so warm? It does seem to roughly coincide with the sides of the batteries however. To me it seems that the right spot heating up is normal, due to the logic board being their. However the left side just seems weird.

Any place but here or there....
Unfortunately, in my experience iPads of all makes heat up to the point where apps crash and you have to restart the iPad. This also can trigger touch irresponsiveness.

I put the Air aside and let it cool off, though I have lost art I was working on because the only fix was to quit Procreate and restart the Air. In the past, I’ve swapped out various iPad models only to have it happen again and again.

With all of Apple’s engineering knowhow, it frustrates me that this heat problem is still a thing almost four years on.

I may finally try a Wacom One tablet to see if I can migrate to that instead.
