Hello,

Has anyone else experienced the following, which started for me with iOS13 (and is still happening under 13.1.1)?

My iPad Air 3 goes into sleep mode when I close the smart cover - fine. But sometimes it won't come out of sleep mode when I open the cover, or press the home button, or the power button. The only solution is a hard reset - and even that just resulted in a spinning wheel one time, not a reboot.

The last time it happened was about an hour ago, when I left it charging (it was 88% charged when I rebooted it). The first time was after upgrading to 13 and switching on Dark Mode. I've turned that off now, but it happened again. I had trouble-free working for about a week before that. I can't predict when it might happen, or see if there's a particular set of steps I'm doing to cause this to happen.

All suggestions gratefully received before I venture into my local Apple Store...

Just to update and provide some closure for those of you who were concerned...

The last time this happened was a little over one week ago. Symptoms included apps running very slowly, taking a long time to launch, Touch ID logging-in not being offered up. Also, even though Dark Mode was now off, the lock screen still went dark at night, and was the presented symptom when I couldn't wake the iPad.

I figured my problems were to do with when I tested Dark Mode out. It seems to be working fine on the Mini 4 but not the Air 3 (not for me, anyway).

So I resorted to a very old backup from June when I bought the Air 3, and everything seems to be 'fine' (usual Apple/iOS disclaimers apply) so far. Not going anywhere near Dark Mode again though!

It sounds that something went wild during your iOS 13 installation. I would suggest backing it up to iTunes and then restoring via iTunes as well. This way iTunes will download the complete iOS 13 file (around 3 GB). Depending on your iPad’s setup, restoring it this way might take around 30-60 min. Good luck!

Hi,

Restoring the June backup (via iTunes) has done the trick. Had to re-sign in to various apps, and re-add my fingerprints but worth the effort. I mean, it couldn't have been much worse!

iOS13... unlucky for some...
