I bought an iPad Air 3 new in 2019, but recently I’m finding, especially when watching YouTube videos while I work, that the screen isn’t responsive when I tap it. It’s not all the time, but it’s enough to make me wonder if the screen is somehow losing its responsiveness or sensitivity.

Is this possible?!

Exactly the same for me: iPad Air 3 new 2019. I’m searching for this issue today because it’s driving me crazy having to tap and swipe over and over again. No idea what options there are or why this might be happening.

this is an issue that started with the second generation pro, together with the white spot, and just as that white spot, it's affecting the Air 3, which has the same 10.5" screen, after a couple of years.

Is it the whole screen, or just part of it?

My iPad Pro 10.5" has a particular region of the screen that fails to register any touch from time to time.

Twisting the device a bit, and maybe massaging the display with a microfiber cloth usually fixes the problem (though just temporarily).

I’m not sure, but it seems like it could be part of it maybe? It seems to be when I want to double tap to rewind a few seconds. It still responds the majority of the time, but it does it enough to make me think there’s an issue.

Same. It shouldn’t be happening at all, let alone 4 years after spending £479 on it!

Isn’t it iPadOS16 / iOS 16?
don’t see any reason why the HW should lose responsiveness over time. But SW yes might happen.

it's hardware, not software, just like the white spot, didn't happen immediately but developed after a couple of years, some say due to a poorly made cable or to some of the screens used

White spot is HW for sure. But that has nothing to do with the touch screen. You only need to have inefficient code to have an unresponsive touch screen.

if that was code it would affect other models too... unresponsive screen on 10.5" devices (and on second gen 12.9" ones) has been there for years, it just doesn't develop immediately but after some time, just like the white spot, so no it has nothing to do with software
