I’ve dug around the interwebs and found that white spot issues are very common in these iPad models, so when Apple received my tablet, they revised my trade-in value from 250 to 0. Is this fair? Personally, I feel like it’s a bit unfair that they basically erased all value for an issue on their end. The tablet is otherwise in perfect condition.

What other options do I have for trade-in/selling? I already received my new iPad, so kinda miffed that I had to pay full price.

Are you kidding me?! They decided that your device has no value because of a defect which is their fault? That's BS. If you had sold it yourself I'm positive that someone would have given you something for it. It's still a fully functional iPad with pretty current specs.

Yeah, it literally went from 250 to ZERO. And there's no way to contest it. You either just accept or cancel. Of course, I cancelled and awaiting the return of the device. Telling you, it's been in a case and screen protector since it went out of the box. It's in perfect condition. Apple's a clown for this one IMO.

A quick Google search shows how widespread this issue is on 10.5 Pros and Airs.

My own Air 3 has two very small white spots. When I get my Air 4 I'm going to give the 3 to my dad though. He won't mind or likely even notice.

I was quoted with a $100 trade-in value, but based on your experience, I should probably expect the value to go down to 0 as well. It's pretty old and the battery life isn't so great anymore, so I'm not sure it would be worth having it sent back to me in that case.

Not sure if the OP's iPad is still under warranty, but I had this issue with my 10.5" IPP a couple years ago. I was still under the Apple limited warranty (didn't purchase AC), and they exchanged the device in-store no questions asked. Not sure if that would be an option for the OP at this point.

I just replaced my Air Gen3, out of warranty, at an Apple store with the White spot issue. Single white dot one inch above home button. No questions asked.

Apple doesn’t actually do trade ins, do they? Isn’t a third party company used? White spots elsewhere or multiple can indicate a dropped iPad. Maybe they were going off that?

hey man, you never know. they might still give you the value. probably depends on who inspected it. keep us posted though.

from what I recall, I went over the year-long warranty by a month or two. now all my current devices have AppleCare+ cause I don't want to deal with this nonsense again.

yeah, I believe you are correct. after apple receives the trade in product, they send it off to a third party. I'm glad they were cool with changing yours. unfortunately, I've read far too many posts from others who were getting charged for a repair. I'm a little surprised this hasn't been admitted as a flaw given how common it is.

Will do. It’s still en route and they’ll likely receive it tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll hear something then if not early next week.

I've been wondering why there isn't a class action lawsuit yet regarding this problem. Neither of my units are affected but it seems like it's common enough to warrant it.

Consumers shouldn't have to buy extended warranties for lemons.

I agree. Apple should be proactive and have a repair program based on a number of reported issues. Instead, we NEED a class action lawsuit (from iPhone battery to MacBook Pro butterfly keyboard issues) to get anything started.

I’ve used Gazelle most often, and recently they gave me the full-quoted amount for a MacBook that had cosmetic damage but worked fine.

So I just got some surprisingly pleasant news from my trade in for my Air 2 - they’ve inspected it and are offering me the full original quoted value of $105! I could’ve sworn I saw a couple of white spots on the display right before boxing it up (didn’t take any photos for some reason), but I guess they either went away or they didn’t notice it. Either way, I’m pretty happy with the result. ?

@OP, maybe you could try creating a new quote and send it in a second time to see if you’ll get the full value for your device? Hopefully you’ll get lucky and get the same inspector I did.
