Hey,

My iPad Air 3rd gen, just a few days after it's 1-year warranty cutoff, started displaying vertical lines all across the screen. In the beginning, they were just showing and disappearing occasionally, and now it's stuck like that permanently.

I took it to Apple and they said this specific issue isn't covered under the recall (although it was made on October '19, so included under the recall plan). I think it's indeed not a screen issue... more like a display connection loose somewhere or something like that.

I'm wondering what will be my best course of action:
1. Take it to a lab and repair it, probably for a hefty sum - I guess no less than $250
2. Try to fix it myself
3. Wait until it blanks and recall it (although it doesn't seem like it's going to happen)
4. Just let go and move on with my life

Did anyone experience this sort of issue?

Thanks!

Do you have any experience in repairing devices?
Good question. Not Apple devices, but I've repaired electronics in the past, soldered some stuff, and built a few computers back in the day. So not the worst possible experience but not ideal I guess.

I think this is only a feasible approach if this is a common malfunction that is easily fixable.

Call Apple again, then again. A few days out should still be covered. Be noisy! They'll eventually cave when you stress you haven't caused this and now it's essentially unusable. If they haven't opened it, how do they know it's not covered under warranty?

I first noticed it January 1st 2021, and it was bought December 30 2019.
I'm in Israel so no Apple, just an official distributor. Not sure they'll cave in.... especially since I didn't buy it directly from them.

They haven't opened it but they say this specific issue isn't covered under the recall. The recall definition is 'blank screen'.
