Hi all,

Just picked up a new iPad 4 today in London, UK.

This may be the way the screen should look like but to me it looks like (if I hold the iPad in portrait mode) the left hand side of the screen (more noticeable on white background) has a more grey/dimmed colour that the right hand side and bottom/top part of screen which is razor sharp (just like my iPhone X).

It is almost as if the screen is not flush against the glass (although it does not look broken in any way.) If I tilt the iPad and look "behind" the bezel sort of speak it looks like the light is being dimmed evenly along the left-han side.

(Not sure if this makes sense.)

Photos:

1. Right-hand side - razor sharp
2. Left-hand side - tilting iPad to see "behind" bezel
3. Left-hand side - tilting iPad to see "behind" bezel

Thanks all

Your iPad Air 4 could possibly have light bleed. Get it exchanged for a new one.

I just bought and returned a 12.9 iPad Pro due to similar issue except mine was the right side being darker. This is unfortunately can be an issue with side lit LCD panels. However, my iPad Air 4 has a very evenly lit screen with no noticeable issues.

I would recommend returning for a different one.

I have the same exact issue with my iPad Air 4 that I just bought, did you get it replaced and if so, does the new unit have the same issue? @Nubben

I noticed some reviewers on youtube seem to have the same issue on their units but they haven’t noticed it... it took me a couple of days to realize some thing was off with that left edge.

Hi Forum!

I ordered an iPad Air 4 in early December, but returned it because of a similar issue as the one described above: The left-hand side in portrait mode of the iPad I received had a distinct green hue or tint when displaying a white screen, irrespective of viewing angle. None of my previous iPads ever showed anything like that.

Because of the lack of stock at the time, I wasn’t offered a one-for-one swap. I was about to order one again sometime now. But over the weekend, I got to see another Air 4 in the family which has the same issue.

In light of this, I wonder how widespread the issue is. Considering the price of the Air 4 and the quality of the screens of (my) previous iPads, I cannot imagine this to be the new standard.

Or is it? Maybe it is I consequence of the production methods for the rounded corners? The corners (obviously...) show some red hue against white, but I think that is inevitable because of the rounded corners. The red corner issue may (just) be acceptable, but the green hue or tint on the left hand side is too much.

Since I cannot currently go to the Apple Store and check the iPads displayed there, I was wondering what the Forum’s experience is. To reproduce, go to google.com in Safari (or display any other white background). Along the border of the left-hand side (in portrait mode), the screen shows a green hue/tint/shadow, irrespective of viewing angle.

Is that simply normal for this screen? Is it a quality control issue? The two Air 4s that I saw where both of the base model (64GB, w/o cellular): any correlation to variants?

If this is standard, then I will spare Apple and myself the hassle of another order.

It's just luck of the draw. I assume Apple deems this acceptable since this kind of issue has been going on forever. Most people won't notice or care much since they're not staring at blank white screens all day.

Um, if an alien visited this forum, they would assume otherwise. White and / or black is all the rage these days, light bleed, red shift, etc. 😂

I did not even specifically look for any screen issues. It would have been hard not to notice.

Anyone with an Air 4 out there: Does your screen show the green left-hand border on white backgrounds?

Have exact same issue on iPad Air 5. Left edge has dimmed lines right under the bezel so it casts a shadow along the edge, right edge is sharp. My main concern at the moment is, will this issue cause some more serious problems ahead? Or is it a contained problem that I can get used to? Any comments on that?

Any update? Did you replace this? Or did you use it as it is? Did this issue worsen with time or stayed fairly constant?
