So, looking for a TPU style case, and not wanting to wait for a shipment from China, I found an American based company Boxwave. They had the cases in stock, and it arrived in about 4 days. Simple TPU style case, decent fit, and very thin. Adds very little bulk or weight to the iPad Air. It's slightly textured, and matt looking, so it goes well with my black smart cover. No logos on this case either, which is nice. $16.95 is pricey for a TPU case, and with shipping my grand total was $21.23, but I'm happy my iPad is protected, and I'm happy with my purchase. I'll attached some photos for you to see the fit.

I ordered it through Amazon. It's even less now too.

Hey thanks for posting about this cover. I really like the clear versions for my white/silver Air. I think this will work nicely for me until the market for Air accessories picks up. Not too expensive either.

Does it work with the Apple's smart cover for the Air?

Yes, that's Apple Smart Cover pictured above. I specifically wanted a case that would work with the Apple cover, and this has the left side cut out for it. Works as expected.

I ordered this on November 6th and they just got back stock today! It should be here sometime next week, I only paid like $7 in total for it.

How is the button feedback?

I rec'd the same email today. After seeing these pics(thanks OP) I can't wait. Now it's time to discuss a 3rd party cover!

It looks very nice, just what I'm looking for.

I suppose it doesn't have a magnet strip to hold the smart cover open, right?

No, that it does not have unfortunately.

Any idea why the bottom of the case looks badly misaligned?

The bottom is the only place it's slightly off. I think it's just that it came out so quickly. I'm sure it will get refined down the line, but yeah, the bottom isn't perfect, but it doesn't effect use at all.

Oh, I just received one of these today. I guess they have adjusted the fit with actual ipads by now, because the cut outs and button coverage is perfect, better than on your photos. However, the one I received didn't allow my Smart Cover to lie flat. It's was a bummer, and without the cover cutout it would be a great simple TPU case, but I'm sending it back for now.

They are much cheaper than $20 though now, and was eligible for prime shipping. So there is that. I guess I'll be looking at belkin, poetic, Kay's, etc, to find the right one now.

I got two defective copies in a row, for the 2nd replacement I just told them to send me another one of their products and it's flawless.

It's a shame it took like 3 weeks to get all this resolved, and that I didn't get the original product I ordered in the end, but their customer service is impeccable.

OP and to you guys which did you order? Is it the "Blackout Case" because the one in the OP doesn't look like it as his shows no design on the back. If you guys have the Blackout Case can you please post some realtime pictures of it?

Thanks

The one linked in the original post is the one I got, the blackout case. And $5.45 is what it was. I'd post a picture but I did already ship it back (I know, less than $6 I should have kept it long enough to take a couple photos, but I didn't.)

The one in the pictures looks like it could have the same texture as the one I got. Slightly grainy/faux leathery, but not to an extreme. As I said, without the cutout it would be an awesome tpu shell (and obviously OP likes it, I can understand that). If by design in the back you mean a little logo, nope, it was completely blank.

I ended up getting the I-blason hard shell w/anchor locks. I'll see how that goes. I don't care much about weather the smart cover is locked or not, but it seems like a well reviewed, nice case.

I don't think the OP's is the blackout case, look at the pictures of his case he posted then look at the link I posted of that case in the above post. Unless Boxwave is sending out cases that look nothing like the product page. I'm not talking about just the Boxwave logo look at the back on amazons product page the Blackout case is different and has no cutout at all.

Aha...I was both wrong and right. I didn't have the blackout case, and neither does the OP. It was the smart sleeve in nero black, which is on the same product page, depending on where you click (beneath the price info, where you can also choose from a couple of other tpu cases and boxwave's lightning cable, among other items...one of those weird multi-product pages you sometimes get). The price looks to be the same for both, and the Amazon photos look like the cases are the same, save for the smart case cutout. And the photos of the blackout case look like the texture of the one that OP and I received from Amazon, grainy-textured back, smoothish sides. The illos of the smart sleeve *do* look like they have a different texture form what I received. And all of the illos show a boxwave logo, which wasn't on the one I received, nor the OP's.

And in the end, as I said, I sent my boxwave back. Received an i-Blason hard case (specifically, the "Smart Cover Partner Crystal Clear Hard Snap On Slim-Fit Case", whew) which I'm really happy with, and will be keeping.
