I'm getting an iPad Air wifi+cellular and need information about cellular plans. 90% of the time I'll be using available wifi, but occassionally I'll need cellular data access. Instead of paying for an ongoing monthly data plan can I get a prepaid plan and only use cellular when necessary? Are there prepaid plans that work with eSIM? And last, any recommendations for a prepaid plan? TIA!

If you bought the iPad from Apple, go to Settings > Cellular > and pick a new postpaid T-Mobile plan 5GB / 150 days for $10.
Yes, I purchased it at Apple Store. What happens with the postpaid plan when a user reached 5GB?

In the UK are the any similar plans for the iPad for people using cellular ?

I don’t believe so.

I have a Mini 6 purchased from the Apple Store, and had a Mini 5 before that. Here are the options; a few of them are new, but no T Mobile. In the UK T Mobile and Orange merged in 2010 to form EE, so I wouldn’t expect to see anything T Mobile branded.

Ok thanks! Great information!

eSim seems way to expensive for occasional use unless you have a rolling monthly subscription which I don't want. Using WIFI or hotspotting with my iPhone are better solutions for me although can lead to faster battery drainage.

You could check out roaming eSIMs.

MobiMatter has a $40 40GB 365 days plan for Europe+US (Sparks, Poland-based).

Roamless, you load a $ amount (no expiry) which gets deducted based on your usage.

I'm using Roamless in the US. They charge $2.45/GB with no expiration. I'm getting 5G service on AT&T with them. And if I leave the US, the eSIM should automatically switch to a local provider in 100+ (I forget the exact number) countries.

I originally used the T-Mo 5GB/5months/$10 plan. When that plan stopped working correctly, no one at T-Mo had any idea how to fix it. In fact, they completely broke the ability to use eSIM with T-Mobile at all.
