What is the latest status, does the Ipad air m1 with 64gb storage support stage manager and external monitors in same way as Ipad pro with m1 and other cpu’s?

Or is stage manager limited to models with more than 64gb storage.

You can use Stage Manager on the iPad Air 5 (64 GB). However, the iPad Air 5 base model with 64 GB of storage doesn’t support the virtual swap memory feature, as it requires at least 128 GB of internal storage.

Memory Swap is a feature that utilizes a portion of the device’s storage as Virtual RAM. (Similar to Extended RAM, RAM Plus, etc.)

This means you can still use Stage Manager without virtual swap memory, and the performance should still be good despite this limitation.
