Hi,
I want to get an iPad but I wonder what’s worth buying for the same price range :

- An iPad Air 256 GB with every useful accessory (Smart keyboard and pencil 1G) = 900€
- An iPad Pro 11" 64GB (with only the 2nd gen Pencil) = 1000€ knowing that new Pros will be released certainly on March 2020 (and Pro prices are quite elevated currently on French web stores)

I am more and more convinced that getting the Air is the best choice, what do you think ?

It really depends on your usage and preferences.

Personally, at same price, I always opt to get the older or lower end model with more storage than the latest one with less storage. More storage just suits my usage better than having the fastest chipset availabl.

I agree that the Air makes a lot of sense from multiple angles! At the end of the day there’s nothing that the Pro can but the Air can’t do.

I wouldn’t go for a 64GB Version in almost 2020 now. Data becomes always more and larger.

Thanks guys for your answers ! :) Concerning my needs, I think I’ll watch a lot of vids, I’ll play some games and I want to draw with Procreate
I don’t know if it could help

But basically I think there will be no 2020 version of the iPad Air so it could be the right choice.. I won’t have the bad feeling of buying something that will be replaced soon :)

Get the iPad Air.

iPad Pro 10.5" 256 GB from the Apple refurb store.

The 4 GB RAM in the 2017 iPad Pro may provide you more layers in Procreate than the 3 GB RAM in the Air 3.

If you watch videos and use the internal speakers, then the iPad Pro 10.5" wins hands down. The speaker setup is much, much better. No contest.

I got an Air 64gb 2019 from Amazon warehouse deals $380, has A12 chip, good laminated display, I don't do pro work just media consumption and other things that don't require much more than the safari browser thanks to iPad OS. I like it better than the base iPad but don't want to pay pro prices. Perfect Medium and great price. Also Applecare+ is only $69 can't be it. I think alot of people get caught up in specs rather than just enjoying the device, buy what you need it for.

The former processor is not an issue ?
A10X in the iPad Pro 10.5" is quite fast, esp. GPU.

Also, it seems iPad Pro 10.5" may have a more robust video encoder than iPad Air 3.

iPad Pro 10.5" is also USB 3 for external storage. The iPad Air 3 is USB 2.

In fact I’d surely go for the Air if french prices were not so high.. here in France an iPad Air 256 Gb costs 710$ and the iPad Pro 64 Gb costs currently 930$... In one hand I would be frustrated to spend a lot in a Pro that will apparently be replaced in 3 months (at the same price), in the other hand is an iPad Air at 600$ worth buying ?

US prices don’t include tax. OTOH, they frequently have big discounts at 3rd party retailers.

I am hopeful for a spring 2020 release of the new iPad Pros, but there are no guarantees.

definitely go for greater than 64GB storage on an iPad these days. Apps and data will fill 64GB really quick.

iPad Air 256GB Wi-Fi is regularly $650 in the US. In my city, that's $720 after tax and CA recycling fee. We just had some recent $100 off holiday sales that made pricing more attractive. :p

The Air 3 is fairly new though so it doesn't go on sale as often as the 2018 Pro. The 64GB Pro 11 has frequently been on sale for $650-675 before tax this past year. I think right now, Best Buy has another sale on the Pros but the iPad 7 and Air remain full price.

You definitely convinced me, I’ll go for the Air with the Pencil and if I fall in love with the new pros on March I’ll sell it at worst :) Thanks for your advice !
