I recently got elected to a local board. Lots of meetings, handouts provided, mark ups, and notes taken during meetings. I was interested in upgrading my iPad for Black Friday and think with the ability to take notes with the pencil and save documents to the iPad it would be a time saver and help me stay organized.

I tend to buy devices and keep them for ever, and my six year old first generation Air is still going strong. (We use it for media consumption and it's pretty slow to type on.).

I'm going to at most do a lot of note taking on it, shouldn't be doing anything heavy duty, but I have that longevity in mind when I make purchases. Any recommendations on the 11 inch pro versus the the Air? I was thinking 256 in either option would be helpful for those plane rides.

Thanks

Given I haven't seen significant discounts today for the Air while Pro 11 is $150 off, I vote for the Pro 11.

A12X, 4GB RAM, ProMotion, quad speakers, Apple Pencil 2 are worth the relatively small difference in price between the two right now. It has FaceID, too (personally not a fan).

If you are planning to keep the iPad for so long, then go with the Pro.

I'll vote for the Pro as well. I have the iPad Air 3 and, while it is a nice device, it is only compatible with the Apple Pencil 1.. not the Apple Pencil 2. The air 3 has a Home button but no Face ID. The Pro model will also be able to handle heavier tasks should you end up doing more.

I'd also like to vote for the iPad Pro.

I have a similar doubt.
I use in this moment an IPad Air 2.
I love it but I see that display is little for see Netflix in the night.
Black Friday here give me an Apple Card (50€ for air 2019 and 100 for pro 11”).

I don’t use iPad often because I have iPhone XS Max and My work is alla day with this iPhone.
My iPad use is:
1) see Netflix in the night
2) read some comics
3) use sometimes excel because iPhone max has little display
4) Safari when I am relaxed
5)some YouTube video
6) work sometimes with lightroom (sometimes I use my Max )

I wish change because sometimes I have few seconds lag between my apps and the keyboard sometimes has lag in typing (I use original keyboard). In the night display is little .

Now the question is: for my work what is the best upgrade the new air or the expensive pro 11”?
Do you think that pro will receive upgrade in 2020?

the iPad Pro will be upgraded FOR SURE in 2020.
But it won't be in deal for a while, like every Apple product...
So if you need an iPad NOW, buy it while you can get a good deal.
I bought today ad iPad Pro 11" 256 Gb with a €200 discount.

Both will be fine for you kind of usage (maybe the Pro is even overkill for that).
It is difficult to see any longevity difference between the two. The Air is newer and could be supported one more year (theoretically), but the Pro is more powerful anche could age better...

Pro is nicer primarily for convenience. Besides, lack of deals on Air 3 make the Pro more attractive at the moment (although that could change on Cyber Monday).

Can't believe I forgot about it but USB-C with 7.5W power should probably prove quite useful in the long run.
