I was ready to buy the new Air, but 64GB is too low (currently almost full on 64GB Air 2) and 256GB too expensive. Now I have to decide between 8th gen or wait, hoping Air 5 goes up to 128GB. Quite disappointed. They could have made a good deal more off people like me by convincing me to pay for midrange if they had started at a higher storage capacity. My Air 2 is getting pretty laggy.

Yes, that's on purpose not to cannabalize the Pro too much :)
Also it's a non-Pro and you know only pros need min of 128 GB. ;)

They know 128GB is a sweet spot in terms of storage for many users. It’s to upsell you into buying the higher storage Air 4 or the base Pro if 256GB is too much. Or you could choose to get the 128GB iPad 8 but I don’t think too many buyers looking at the new Air 4 will want to do that.

Yeah. I’d prefer not to, but $599 is already more than I feel comfortable paying. An affordable iPad 8 is better than a poorly operating iPad Air 2.

I hear ya. For me it wouldn't be a problem because I actually prefer the iPad 8 over the Air 4. Things like the option for a smart cover and smart keyboard cover are my preferences.

I recently had to make that decision when buying the Mini 5. 64GB vs 256GB. Since it is my only iPad and I'm going to keep it for quite a while, I had to bite the bullet and get the 256GB model. Trading in my iPad 6th gen and Mini 4 made it a bit more palatable but only barely.
