Had an ipad Air 5 for a couple of days but was worried about how the touchid would work with a case. It seemed too recessed to me so I switched to a 12.9 pro, but that has issues on it's own, size and the camera is right where the hands often go.

I may try a 11-inch pro but I was curious before I did it if anyone has cased one of these and how it worked for them.

Thanks!

Which case are you using for the iPad? I’ve always used Apple’s Smart Folio case and haven’t had any issues with touchid.

Since you already switched , With Face ID , If your iPad is in landscape mode and is just sitting there , tap on the blank screen , look at your iPad , then pick it up .
If you are holding your iPad in landscape mode then just be sure you are not covering the camera when you try to unlock your apps if they are faceiD locked . Just open your left hand thumb palm area before you try to unlock the app . It’s not like they will ask you to unlock randomly out of nowhere.
If your iPad is asleep under a flippable cover , when you pick it up , it should already be in Portrait mode since you’ll be opening the cover like a book .

Logitech and Zagg. The Zagg’s are pretty thick, almost overkill, so I sort of get it there.

So much depends on the touchid and it’s kind of an awkward setup without a case.

Yeah, I’ve given up on the Logitech and ZAGG cases. Too much added weight and bulky. I’ve had good results with the Apple Smart Folio with no drops although I don’t use it often. I tend to put skins on my iPads and just call it a day.

I’ve pretty much set up touchid to work with both hands, and I use the iPad almost exclusively in landscape. As far as the camera is concerned, I have one of the camera covers which stays closed unless I need to FaceTime/Teams, etc.
