iPad and HD video?

According to the iPad tech specs page, it supports HD video up to 720p, but does not mention how many Mbps it can handle. Conversely, on paper, the Apple TV handles 5 Mbps, but can in fact support up to 7 Mbps or so.

I'm already starting to encode videos to prepare for my iPad, so how many Mbps do you think the iPad will support?

There is no way of knowing what Apple will cap in terms of performance. The iPad CAN handle 1080p since it is a faster version of the 3gs, which has been proven to be able to playback 1080p, but Apple likely will not allow this.

I would just encode for the Apple TV since we know that will work. Once it is released, we will have more concrete information.

Do you mind me asking what programs you are using to encode the videos?

Usually use Handbrake but had a few dropped frames recently.

I'm also using HandBrake. But while encoding for the Apple TV, it remains to be seen whether or not the iPad will support 64 bit MP4 files over 4 GBs.

I thought this was using a customized version of the 3g iPhone running at a higher clock speed?
