I am not seeing any comprehensive posts on the possibilities for this device in niche markets.

I've spent the last few days imagining the potential for iPad in doctors' offices and hospitals. Developers have already done a lot for patient monitoring via iPhone. This larger pad seem to offer so much more potential and comes at the right time as we move toward digital medical records. Doctors will be able to monitor and stay in touch with patients in critical condition at all times, and easily share information with other doctors as well as patients. That's just off the top of my head -- I'm not a doctor or a developer.

And what about education? With education/bulk discounts the base model isn't hard to imagine not just in colleges, but in classrooms of all ages. All those kids could be creating presentations and documents in iWork on their docked ipads. I'm not a teacher, but it's not hard to imagine. There are schools paying for macbooks in every room (though not many due to price, of course).

I've seen a little bit more written about how the iPad might operate in architecture/the built environment. eg, walls or chalkboard-like assemblages of iPads that are interactive.

What about bookstores or other retail settings? I see those little kiosks where you search for a book in the store at barnes & noble. Those could be replaced with relatively little expense in favor of iPads and stores. I think it could only have a favorable impact on a company's image and at the same time it would free up more of their employees' time. (Why ask someone if they have a book when you can do it with an iPad?).

Not to mention Graphic Design/Visual/Multi-media art.

Any other ideas? I think this thing has a lot more potential than a coffee table toy.
