I've had my iPad for a while now and been running iOS 4.2 since the GM versions came out, I see the new iOS is out for TV2 also. I wondered what can be streamed to our HDTV from our iPad if we get the Apple TV w/iOS 4.2? Can pictures, videos and such that are in the ipad be streamed? Can we go to say utube on the iPad and stream the video we're watching to the Apple TV? Or even play a game on the iPad and have it being shown on the TV while playing? Thanks all in advanced!!

At the moment, video from the YouTube App or from the iPad App can be played on the Apple TV, and that is all.

Audio can be played from various Apps.

You can also show your pictures. For some reason, on the iPhone, pictures from your camera roll do show but videos don't

When you use ipod or Pandora from iPad to AppleTV what come up on the TV?? Does it show ipod screen with album cover or songlist?
Also say if I bring up Netflix on my iPad and find a movie I want to watch or started watching, can I just stream it from iPad to to AppleTV or do I have to use the Netflix app on the Apple TV exclusively??

The Netflix people intentionally disabled the ability to stream from iPad to the AppleTV. Really it doesn't matter because the new AppleTV can access and play your online Netflix stuff straight from the AppleTV. There's no need to stream it from the iPad.

No they didn't. The audio part of Airplay works with Netflix just like all the other 3rd party apps. I used it last night actually. And they couldn't enable the video part if they wanted to because Apple does not yet allow 3rd parties to use the API that enables it. So Netflix didn't disable anything let alone "intentionally". The website that reported that got it completely wrong.

Are both HDMI & Optical active at the same time??? some components only let one or the other at one time. I'm hoping when I get a Apple TV I can run the HDMI to the TV and the optical to my surround receiver.

This works like a charm. I have the same set up.
