iPad & AT&T

I'm in no hurry - I expect I will wait until the 2nd generation. But I'm getting close to retirement and the dreaded downsizing - getting rid of my library. That means getting a Kindle or a competitor.

But if I get an iPad, I could get rid of my laptop (we'd keep our Macs). I wouldn't need an iPod. My grandchildren love playing with iPads at the Apple Store. I'd still need to carry my reading glasses.

I don't have an iPhone, as I'm not a customer of AT&T. And I don't want to add an other monthly phone fee. What would I be giving up or gaining with this monthly AT&T fee for an iPad?

I agree. As a long time Mac desktop owner (Mac Mini), I have no need for a laptop and am bypassing that dreaded platform altogether with the fabulous iPad.

However, I wouldn't wait for the next generation, as this technology is already revolutionary with immediate benefits. There's not that much of a change to notice by holding off for some future improvement... otherwise one could wait forever for new technology that's always just around the corner. Changes to the iPad will be incremental.

Waiting until "they get it right" is a losing proposition. But often 2nd generation fixes flaws, and one can be waiting for one particular feature such as a camera.

I think they already "got it right". But you're welcome to wait for the next, 3rd, 4th, etc. generation. I think life's too short for that...

I agree with this poster. They pretty much hit a home run out of the box this time. I appreciate the need or desire to wait down the road for certain features that are lacking now. Personally, we don't skype or have a need to, so the camera is a feature that would never get used even if we had it (We're both in our early 50s here).

You wouldn't be wrong in buying now, but if you choose to wait that not so bad either.
