earth, for now.
I got the iPad the day it came out in Canada, and the next day I got myself a data package through Bell. I bought the $30/5GB plan. It's been well over a month and a half since I've activated the plan, and my credit card has only been charged the once.

With Bell's Data service for the iPad, activation is done over the phone, (not on the device like Rogers). The lady I spoke with informed me that I would have to call each month to have my service 'topped' up, and if I didn't call back the service would just 'end'. Although, my acct will still be active for 1 year without any activity.

So, it's been well, its going to be 2 months here in a few days, and my CC has only been charged once. I still have Data access.

Im wondering - since I bought the 5GB plan, and as of yet, I just reached my 3GB mark... do you think my data is just rolled over to the next month until the 5GB plan is used up,... then I would have to call and get it topped up?

****

On a side note, just a lil curious question. When I activated the iPad Data Service with the Bell MicroSim, I was assigned a phone number. It uses the right prefix that is used around my area for Cell phones. For example, my cell phone starts with 476-XXXX and my iPad's number is 476-XXXX.

I heard on ipadincanada.ca (http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/new-iphones/unlocked-iphone4-price-predictions-for-canada/) that the iPhone 4 will be sold unlocked - now Im curious.. if I actually put my microSim from my iPad into the iPhone 4.. do you think the Data will work, and/or would voice calls work as well. I know it's a silly question, but I just had to ask.

I have a feeling that it's going to work. I have a friend who took out their sim card from an old flip phone, placed it in a 3GS, and they have voice/data, and are only being charged what they use to pay for their flip. Which I believe is only $10/mth for unlimited data (rogers)

Just curious what your thoughts are!!

:)

Thanks for the input.

From Bell's website:

Bell offers two iPad plans with no long-term contracts. Data is valid for 30 days from activation and cannot be carried over month to month. Plan must be renewed every 30 days or sooner if the included data is used up.

So I guess that answers your first question.

As for your second question, I can't really say since I don't know the logistics of the MicroSIM and iPad and how it's setup (thinking it's not the same as a phone). But seeing how you could use an iPhone 4 microSIM in an iPad (through modification of a few settings), I don't think it's farfetched to think that you could use an iPad microSIM and use it in an iPhone, but I've never seen a smartphone with just data and no voice or think it's even possible.

Hope you find your answer as I'm curious to know as well.

EDIT: Well according to http://www.slashgear.com/no-iphone-4-microsim-swapping-with-ipad-3g-confirms-apple-1690129/

It looks like it iPad to iPhone 4 won't be possible. It seems that the problem is the iPad microSIM not having a voice plan on it prevents it from being used in the iPhone.
