I was in Borders last night and on a lark I entered "iPad" in their inventory computer. Man! It seemed like a dozen or so titles popped up including "iPad Portable Genius", "iPad for Dummies" and so on. All of them had 'pre-order only' listed under the title. Now...

Do you think the authors are receiving info from Apple now to prepare their books (after signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement of course), or will they not be able to do anything for another month until they get their hands on one at launch?

It's cool to wonder if any NDA authors currently exist or not. And just imagine: if they do, they would be privy to any 'One More Thing' surprises not yet revealed, while the rest of us can only wait! :(

I believe many of those authors do have the iPad in their hands and are just being subjected by multiple NDAs that Apple makes them sign. Apple do have a relationship with the publishers for this purpose.

Also, authors are not the only people who have the iPads. Many other people have them right now (Stephen Colbert is the only popular name that I am aware of right now), all with NDAs of course.

colbert got to hold one for about 2 minutes. they took it away as soon as the skit was over.

Stephen Colbert does not have an iPad. He stated that he was handed one prior to going on stage, which was immediately grabbed back again once he got off stage.

That's interesting. I kinda figured they would just give Colbert an iPad. What would be the big deal? He doesn't need to sell it for money.

Having dealt with these authors before; it is not uncommon, especially with someone like Apple who is very strict, to allow them to come to their facility to use the game / app / device that they are writing about so that they can get what they need for their book. Of course NDA's are required as to not allowing anyone to publish anything until it is shipping. But often these people don't have the products in their hands full time.

I just want to know who is stupid enough to need "iPad for Dummies."

The series is generally a very good introduction for the topic at hand. People who currently don't "get computers" will pick it up. Heck, I might just by a copy of that book for my mom. She is actually excited about getting an iPad because, as she says, she "can't figure out computers".

Yeah...maybe a few people who've never used an iPod Touch or iPhone might be able to use it, but really...

Like Steve said in the keynote, look at the 75 million people who already own one of those devices, and they'll already be familiar with how to use an iPad.

I'm sure the author will delve into the newly written iPad-specific apps, and hey - what author doesn't wanna make bank on an easy title like "iPad for Dummies"? You know they will...
