Hello,

I just got an ipad, and I know this is no iPod , but
I want to use it to listen to music in the car.

has any one came up with a good solution to use the ipad in the car?
If you can give me ideas it will be great, I think it will be stupid to buy an ipod just for that.

Why would you want to ? 3rd gen Nano fits in the center console, where the jack is located. iPod is a much better audio media player, is smaller and more convenient than the iPad.

Please don't become another detracted driver that I have to worry about.

I only used mine once and it was to stream music. I just hooked it up to my aux port and left it in my bag on the seat.

You probably don't want to have the screen visible when you are driving though because I would think it would be a pretty big distraction.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking to do with my iPad in my Jeep for use as a big-screen GPS. My only concern is the extremely high levels of gritty dust the iPad would be exposed to when offroad. Closing off openings either with tape or by plugging something into them is easy; need to figure out what to do for a removable screen protector though (suggestions welcome - looking for something that allows easy residue-free removal).

Not sure if you can modify the waterproof bag I have seen for the iPad to meet your needs. I think I have seen them on Amazon.

the ramm mount is uggs. proclip is the best option...

I have to disagree. The Proclip iPad mounts will block all of your vents. In the summer it may not be too bad since the AC will blow on it, but in the winter the heater will blow on it and potentially cause it to over heat. FAIL in my book. :(

Besides, I think the ProClips one looks no less ugly than the Ram Mount one.

A point of caution: check up on local laws regarding mounted devices before making your final choice.

California, for example, has restrictions on the size and location of devices that can be placed on the dashboard. This was passed primarily because of the proliferation of mounted GPS devices, but since the iPad is bigger than GPS devices, it would fall under the restrictions as well.

My car reads in my iPod and allows me to control it with the car controls; it doesn't for the iPad. Only way I can do it [I don't because I do not need to] is by attaching a 3.5-3.5 cable both ways and controlling music from iPad itself [bound to get you in an accident].

I'm assuming this law equally applies to nearly every police cruiser in California equipped with a dashboard-mounted laptop (a PC nonetheless!). :p :D

So i am sure it will be a distraction
But isn't an ipod just as much distraction? If you are looking looking for a certain song you will have to look at the screen and use the scroll wheel.

How does everyone who used an ipad in the car feel about it, and how much is it of a distraction while driving?

I am looking to play audio only in the car, as I have no ipod.

I also don't want to buy ipod+ipad , I am tired of Apple sucking my money
