I just received my iPad this morning from apple. I ordered on June 5th to be eligible for the unlimited data plan. But when I go to sign up for a data plan, only the 250 mb and 2 gb plans show up. I thought I would still be eligible for unlimited? Am I missing something?

That's really crappy. Call AT&T and see if they can add it. If not, Id say you'd have a great reason to return it (without a restocking fee) if you want.

That being said, 2gb is a lot if you've already got home wifi. The only situation I think most would need unlimited is if 3G was their primary way of connecting the iPad to the Internet.

jeez. be nice.

are you sure? i just bought one on saturday in store, and i thought i had missed the cutoff too, but when i actually looked and read, it was infact the thrird choice and was hilighted making it actually LESS visible and apparent. just made the cutoff, i guess. but check again, it might be there.

AT&T phased out its Unlimited Data Plan for the iPad after a certain date. Anyone who wanted to get it up to that date and those who already had the unlimited data plan are able to keep it but it is no longer available.

Welcome to Canada. We never had the option of an unlimited data plan to start with. At least I'm thankful that we have a 250mb or 5gb plan options. I'm surprised that AT&T dropped the higher of their two options bellow ours but I believe the US plans are still cheaper.

if the ipad order was placed before the cut off date of June 7th, the purchaser is supposed to eligible for the unlimited data.

Unfortunatly that is false. You are purchasing the ipad from Apple, not AT&T, they have no idea of when you purchased it. iPads are all the same so even if you purchased one from someone that HAD been ordered before June 7th, either from the website, store or from someone else, then waited any length of time (like 6 months) you still woudnt be ablet o get the unlimited data plan. The Unlimited Data Plan from AT&T was only available from the day it was announced to the cut-off date.

If it had anything to do with when individual orders of the ipad had been made, people would have sold theirs by now for double or triple the price to those wanting the unlimited data plan.

I still wish we had an unlimited data plan in Canada.

I bought my ipad on Friday and I was able to sign up for the unlimited plan. No preorder, I just walked into Best Buy and bought it.

In particular, note the ATT reps comment.

Same here

Been on Hold with AT&T for 25 minutes, after being disconnected when holding for 25 minutes.

i Hope for a quick solution to this problem, for I can't activate and use until this is ironed out.

This better be solved for you, or there's going to be a massive lawsuit to AT&T for misrepresentation. I also ordered mine before the deadline under the condition of getting the Unlimited Plan, and it should arrive on Wednesday.

If you are still having problems, ask for a Supervisor, or for your call to be escalated to someone who knows about it.
Getting disconnected is no accident. Their reps will hang up on you if they don't have a solution. Most of them are 3rd party company working off a script. If the call takes too long they loose performance points, so they hang up and close the case (if they ever open it).

This is no good at all...

AT&T has set up a phone number for iPad customers to activate with the unlimited data plan. Just call customer service, they will give you the phone number. I was able to call and get my iPad that I received this morning on the unlimited plan.

Did they ask you for proof of purchase? How are they verifying your iPad was purchased before June 7th?

This.

I had the same problem with the iPad I received this morning. They gave me an 866 number (just call AT&T cs for help). I was on hold for an hour before I got to a representative who knew exactly why I was calling and what I needed to do to get my unlimited plan.

Basically, they help you activate your cellular data plan. They will ask you to choose the 25.00 plan then put in all your credit card info. Once you get your Cellular Data Number after activation, they make the change from the 25.00 plan to the 29.99 Unlimited plan. The hardest part of the ordeal was the long hold but after that, you're good to go.

HTH.

After holding for 50 minutes, the second time, there was success. I very kind woman walked me throughout the activation process, similar to what others had to do. Select 2BG plan, then plan was immediately replaced with Unlimited by Rep. Took about 5 minutes.:apple:

Here's The Fix - Please Read

Call the AT&T iPad support center for this very issue. I got mine yesterday and after a lot of back and forth with Apple and AT&T, I got the number.

1-866-640-5125

Just tell them that you ordered the iPad before the cutoff but just received because of backorder. They will tell you to activate it for either plan and give them the cellular data number in settings. They then cancel the plan you signed up for and move you to the unlimited plan. Then the confirmation is sent to you and you can verify everything right on the iPad.

BE PREPARED TO WAIT ON THE PHONE A LONG TIME. I waited 2 1/2 hours last night before I just hung up and then 2 hours first thing this morning before I got through.

Pass this along and I will post it in the main area.

Forget about AT&T and use a mobile hotspot app if you already own a cell phone with an unlimited data plan.

I called the 866 number posted above over 4 hours ago and was on hold the whole time until now, when it sounded like I was going to get someone, then Click! Hung up on after all that time, talk about frustrating. I might try tomorrow early morning and see if I have better luck

You got a point there!!

I believe after reviewing a couple of charts, that 2 gb is a lot!!
On my iphone, each month, I was under 600 mb. I was no where close to 1 gb.

I surf the net all day and all night...
I would drive in my car and use my iphone as a gps, run youtube video, and hit up on social network sites.... And yes, I never hit 1 gb.... Isn't that crazy!:p

now that I have the ipad, i purchased on 8/14 the 250 mb...
Its now 8/25 (10 days later), I have only 56 mb left... I was aware at all times to turn off the 3g so I could save it for later. Then, I noticed that most of the time I am in a wifi area and turned off the 3g. I live in NYC...

If you visit AT&T website, they have a chart for you to use and a calculator!
