I have a new iPad Pro (2021), which is great, and it’s running iOS 14.6. I’m running into an odd problem and I can’t tell if it’s a bug or due to an errant setting.

I like to watch TV or videos in Safari in full-screen on mute while listening to music using the Music app. For example, a YouTube video, or a baseball game on ATT.tv with the announcers muted.

For reasons I can’t figure out, when I do this, the iPad dims and then auto-locks after two minutes, as per my auto-lock setting. It does not auto-lock if the video is playing with sound, with the Music app inactive.

I suspect this is a bug, with the Music app somehow overriding the video, but I’m not sure. Any ideas? Thanks.

Same configuration, but no problem as you described. However, I only view videos with the sound from that video and haven’t seen the problem described.

Report it to Apple. They may fix it soon.

Updated to 14.7.1 and still happening.

If others could try to replicate this, I’d appreciate it. I assume it’s a software issue and not my iPad, but who knows.

As noted above, the key thing is that the video has no sound or is on mute. Thanks.
