iPad+Disney's Earth=WOW

I can't watch any movies for critical viewing on such a low res screen. Certain tv shows are fine. If you watch in widescreen (which almost all content is nowadays) you aren't even getting the full 720p resolution due to the unused pixels depending on the aspect ratio of the program.
Speak for yourself! I absolutely love watching HD videos on my iPad and don't care if they are only 720p or not. It looks good enough to me!

Hmmm. Well the screen was 2 feet from my face and I could see every detail in the animals, oceans, trees etc...I am a photographer/videographer and a total "pixel peeper". I noticed zero fragmenting or artifacts in the 90 minute movie. If its good enough for me, it should be for most others too. Sorry you think the screen is such low res
If you like either of the versions of Earth, then you should check out the fantastic TV series that the footage actually came from. Planet Earth. Amazing.
I did have an iPad and I did watch stuff on it and like I said the screen and content look great. The fact is that the screen being 4*3 cannot resolve full 720p for any widescreen content. All I was saying was for me I can't watch a movie for the first time on this because I know how much detail I am missing even though it looks great.
For my critical viewing I watch it on a projector bit that's me.

720p video on the iPad is not very far off from standard 720p
But then you need to factor in the lost pixels due to the 16*9 aspect ratio of most HD content. It will still look good but it's not really even 720p on the iPad unless you are watching 4*3 content.
Anyway it's not a big deal. I agree that it looks good. My other big hobby is vide projection so wanted to let people know that it gets
much better than this!
Well, I guess it's fair to say that things tend to look better on bigger screens. But really, for the size of the screen and all the other things it does, the iPad definitely has an amazing display. I wouldn't mind to view films for the first time on it, and I doubt the average user would, either. For those of us who want higher quality video and music, there are plenty of other, more specialized (and way more expensive) systems out there.

I enjoy a very good image on my iPad which looks great to me so that's all that matters I'm thinking of reactivating my Netflix subscription now.
If any of you liked BBC's "Planet Earth", you should definitely watch BBC's "Life". Their most expensive documentary yet, with even more stunning footage!
But please, do get the version which Sir David Attenborough narrated.
