iPad doesn't support MS Exchange

Leading off on a positive note:

This device is a remarkable piece of gear. I'm sure everyone wanted more of something, but you cannot deny that the computer and capabilities are amazing and stunning.

For me the big disappointment was lack of MS Exchange support.

Exchange for better or worse (mostly worse) is a corporate standard, and it's what I need to be able to lounge on the couch and catch-up on email during the off-hours. I do this with my iPhone today, but the bigger tablet touch screen would have made the task more natural and productive.

So while I had my credit card ready to buy almost anything Apple released today, this is the missing feature that stopped me in my tracks. Unexpected this is.

Short of that, I applaud Apple for this achievement. Nobody does it better. And I'm sure time will address my issue (just like it played-out on the iPhone), and I'll eventually be a proud iPad owner.
 
It works fine on the iPhone and I'm sure it'll still be there with the iPad. They'd be shooting themself in the foot if they took it away.

I think Apple was taking a shot at MS Exchange by not including it in the "popular" email provider's list.

Side note, you need to remove the ":" at the end of the linked address.

Perhaps, but when you look at the iPhone features, Exchange is front and center.

I hope you're right though.
 
That would be key to me as well -- I want all of my e-mail in one place. But I can't believe it would be available for the iPhone and not the iPad.

Perhaps they just didn't get the license yet because they didn't want to share info about the iPad with MS before the announcement. If they don't have the license, I could see why they wouldn't list it on the product page. But now that all is known about the device, perhaps they can get the license they need for Exchange support by the time they actually release in 60 days.
 
Perhaps because Exchange is a platform and not a provider, such as those listed. Generally Exchanges admins provide IMAP support anyway, if it's not there, which I would imagine it is, you'll still be able to get your mail.
 
There's no way it doesn't include this. The device runs on iPhone OS, and iPhone OS has had exchange support since last year. It's in there.
 
Offline Exchnage

I agree that it will for sure have exchange... But I really need to be able to work offline on exchange like a laptop.

When flying that is the time I clean my inbox file emails and do my general house cleaning. You can not do that on my iphone so I really have my doubts that it will be on teh Ipad.

If it does I will 100% get one.. if not well I am going to hold out.
 
Maybe Apple's holding off, and can then push Corporate advantages of the iPad on release. As Andy Ihnatko has commented - Apple has been polling regarding iPad in businesses, so they're definitely thinking about the area.
 
That is impossible. Exchange is supported beautifully on Macs and on iPhone. There is no way. I would not buy the iPad without support for Exchange.

My seamless integration between my work email, contacts, calendar, etc and my mobileme on my PC desktop, MacBook, and iPhone is perfection. I expect (and will demand before I buy) that the iPad will be more of the same.
 
Don't worry about it. I am sure it will be included. Just hold off on preordering if it is really that important to you. The reviews and info from Apple will clarify the MS Exchange situation probably before launch.
 
No worries there.

Exchange support is important enough to me to not want to buy an ipad until it's officially supported.
 
The iPhone page says the same thing:

Exchange support is listed separately for the iPhone. Just because it's not explicitly stated for the iPad isn't proof that it won't be included. Similarly, explicit mention of IMAP and POP isn't on the iPad page - surely you don't think they'll drop IMAP and POP support except for the above providers?
 
There is no way that it doesn't support Exchange. Just because its not in the tiny feature set currently listed doesn't mean it won't include exchange.
 
Yes, I agree that it will have it but i wonder ifit will have the ability to work offline. The iphone does not have that ability, but given the space th ipad is entering I think it will be important.

Give who is working on new slabs that will be coming out over the next 6 months I am sure they will have that ability.
 
Still have the one question will they make it be able to work offline??

This will be very important for the wifi crowd

Also, take a look toward the bottom of that page - you can see the mail configuration screen, and Exchange is listed at the top. I expect the support to be identical to iPhone.
 
Perhaps the title of this thread should be changed so as not to cause unnecessary consternation. Of course the iPad can handle Exchange as fluently as the iPhone.

(one note: users should keep in mind that you can only search emails back at the server from the device if you are using Exchange 2007 and not 2003. I moved my company to 2007 for just this reason. With 2007 it works beautifully.)
