When iOS 14 originally launched, they added the (long overdue) automatic switching between the iPhone and the iPad depending on which was playing, and it worked perfectly.

In recent weeks though, it's become really flakey on my iPad. It will often work, but if I pause the music (or sometimes even if I don't), it will drop the connection on my iPad. Usually I can get the connection back in the control centre, but often I need to turn bluetooth off and on again.

I've tried re-pairing, but that doesn't help. Does anyone have any ideas? My iPhone doesn't seem to have the same problem.

I'm using iPad Air 2 and iPhone 7 both running the latest versions of iOS.

Thanks

Have you tried resetting network settings? Or a clean install? It could simply be the age of the iPad processor and compatibility with iPadOS 14, but worth trying the first and then if necessary the second. Might even be worth setting up as new, i.e. not from a back up.
Fwiw, I am using an iPad mini 5 and a XS with AirPods gen2 and for the most part the auto switch feature works very well. A bit of a lag going back from iPad to iPhone but overall I’m pretty happy with this feature.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's not the age, as it worked perfectly for at least a couple of weeks after iOS 14 was release.

I've done the network settings reset though (good call) so I'll see how that goes

If anyone is interested, that seems to have worked. Thanks!

EDIT - I spoke too soon. It's better than it was, but not 100%
