I'm pretty convinced to go with the new 11" IPP, but recently I've really gotten into Procreate and drawing. One of the things I've been doing to get better is to use split screen and bring up Procreate on the left (I'm left handed), and a picture using photos gallery on the right, so I can draw from a picture. I imagine this would be a bit easier on the 12.9" though, so I've been considering this as well. If there are any other tricks to doing this, please let me know!

Does anyone else use this for drawing, and do you regret getting either one based off of it? I'm so undecided, and though I'd love portability of the 11", I don't really NEED it to be portable since I use it on the couch most of the time or when I'm on vacation I use it on the airplane to watch movies or read.

I got the 11” because of the portability reason. I use it for Note-taking, and as a Laptop with the Magic Keyboard.
You are correct, that would be easier on the 12.9”. If you can get it, get it. You’ll also enjoy it for reading and watching movies.

Drawing its easier on the iPad 12.9”, but I bought the 11” because I use it a lot in my hands and the 12.9” it’s a little bit uncomfortable for this at least for me.

So depends on you, if you prefer portability, go for the 11”, if you use it always on a desk or in the MK, go for the 12.9”

I have a 12.9” and use Procreate...... plus I too am Left Handed.
However, because of the larger screen, instead of splitting the screen I do the following.
1. Create a new canvas.
2. Create a New Layer.
3. With the New Layer selected go to the panel and select Wrench/Insert/Add Photo.
4. I know select a photo and place it on the canvas and resize to whatever size you require (I normally use around a few inches square in the top left.
5. Now go back to your Layers and select the first Layer.
6. Create your background colour then build up your drawing/painting using additional layers.
7. When finished deselect Layer 2 which has the imported photo.

You now have your finished drawing/painting.

I prefer it this way because I can resize or move the imported photo to any place on the screen.

Two iPads? For the price of a 12.9 you could get an Air to draw on and an iPad to display your image.

The 12.9 is great for art, media watching and reading articles. But for actual books then I prefer an 11 or a Mini.

Get the 11” inch version. It isn’t as unwieldy as the 12.9” version.

One iPad. Two Instances of an App on each side. Like this.

Procreate 5X now supports reference floating window, so you don’t have to open split screen to pull up a reference picture.

Yes the 12,9 inch screen has more canvas area, but I never really feel cramped on my 11 inch screen, even when using split screen (30% for reference picture and 70% for Procreate canvas).
And since I’m drawing most of the time on my couch / bed by putting the iPad on my lap or leaning it on my thigh, I can’t imagine using the 12,9 inch comfortably with my drawing position.

Whenever I’m traveling again with plane / train, it’s hard to imagine using 12,9 inch ipad for reading and watching movie too on the bench class.

Generally the 12,9” is too big for my liking. Except when doing spreadsheet or video editing, since I’m using my iPad as main computer now.

I'm an artist who uses my iPad 11" and Procreate as my primary duo. I have used split view a few times, of course a larger screen would be better, but its certainly achievable on the 11".

I didn't know it has a floating window! I tried looking up how to use it and couldn't find it, can you let me know how? Thanks!

With a new canvas; go to the Wrench icon then look down and select ‘Reference’.
Now tap on ‘Image’ and you can load an image into the reference box.

Personally I do not care for this method.... I prefer that which I mentioned previously at post count 4. It gives you greater control of the image.

Thank you! I see what you mean at post count 4. I'm going to try a bit of both of these techniques and see which I like more, but so far both seem better than what i'm doing now.

Was able to pick up a 2020 IPP 12.9" for an amazing deal Saturday night so I decided to try it out for a few weeks and see how I like it and if I decide to go smaller I can always sell it for at least what I paid for it. Already I love using Procreate on the bigger screen a lot more. And looking at pictures/movies/etc on it is AMAZING. That being said, it really does feel big, especially for other tasks not media related, so I'm going to keep using it and see how I feel and if I get used to the size.
