Apple updated numerous products over the past few months or so. I was actually expecting an iPad update, unfortunately this didn't come through and instead they ran with updating the Air and Mini.

I need to purchase around 5-10 iPads for my STEM Club, normally we use them for general browsing, use of the microscope, controlling Sphero and learning how to code through a number of apps. So pretty low usage. The lease deal comes with accidental damage etc. so no major issue there.

Therefore, my question is

A. Will the iPad be updated this year?
B. If not, should I get the Air instead, or would this just be money down the drain?

Get some entry level iPads with an educational discount. They should be more than enough for your club.

I bought 35 of the 2018 model a couple months ago for our school and they are perfect for the usage. Also, everyone knows about the education discount, but Apple also has another entire education store separate from the education discount that offers further discounts and bulk ordering specifically to schools so you might could look into that. I got ours for 299 each instead of 329. If you can find a few sales you might get a better price, but it is often hard to buy in any kind of bulk with those sales.
