So, I live in California, My GF lives in Canada. I shipped her my old Ipad Gen 6. Before I did I factory reset it. After she received it. She setup her account and connected to their home network. Now for some reason she's unable to download any apps. She's able to surf the internet via Safari. So doesn't seem to be connection issue. Since it was factory reset there shouldn't be any restrictions in place right? ANy ideas what could it be?

Also due to health reasons she's not easily able to trouble shoot interactively with me so I've had to direct her via text. The steps we've tried thus far:

  • Forget network and rejoin
  • Set DNS manually
  • Reboot system
  • Logout of the account and log back in
  • Checked system time and region(set to auto)
  • Ipad OS is up to date to 14.3
  • screentime shouldn't be set right? So that should be default off.
  • Since she's able to surf net on Safari doesn't seem to be connection issue.

I'm at a loss as to what else we could try. It was working fine when I had it.

Something you didn't mention is how she is signed into the App Store.

I think that's the issue. Unfortunately her laptop isn't working right now. I think she needs to sign into itunes and add payment option of none as she doesn't intend to purchase anything from the app store. But since her laptop isn't functional i need to figure a way to help her create itunes login. Only thing i think might work is to do it on my system and establish the account and then she can login from the ipad.

I have to tell you that really doesn't make sense. A computer is not required to log into the App Store and iTunes, etc. She can do it directly on her iPad by (1) being logged in using her Apple ID, and then (2) going to Settings > Apple ID > Media and Purchases. It's there she can log in with her Apple ID and set up her payment options.

Once that's set up, she can download the iTunes app.
